Alot of people including Doubleclick are banking on the idea that email advertising as getting a list of OPT-IN users.

Has anyone had any extensive experience with this? How do you recommend I start? What are so good companies who handle OPT-IN email databases?

I have seen Focalex through the ad on this page and they pay you $.40 per subscriber, which is a good starting point.

But I think with them, they basically own the email mailing list, what I rather do is have my own mailing list with the option to OPT-IN to other list while signing up for my list. Currently, I don't even have a mailing list to begin with (except for the 25,000 members on my forums), so how would I start my own email list?

I know these questions seem very basic but I really want to start from the bottom up and learn as much as I can before I start.

Hi LordBiO,

I can't speak for programs that handle list management; I'd say check affiliate portals or do some web searches to pick out some potentials.

In terms of handling your own list, though, keep in mind one thing: profits are made over time, not right away. The thing that's good about Focalex is that you get instant revenue from name generation, rather than having to wait for a name to pay for itself over time. Just a side note!

With regards to list management, I would suggest partnering with someone who is decently sized, as you will probably also want them to go ahead and broker your lists, as without sales, having your own list won't make sense (or money).
