Default Where can I find a cheap, fast and reliable domain hosting service?

Where can I find a cheap, fast and reliable domain hosting service? I'm thinking of getting my own domain now. But I don't want to host it in free domain hosting services like hypermart because of the banners that they put on your site. So can some one please tell me a cheap place I can host my site. The space size does not matter to me I only need a few MB.

Hi,

I'm not sure what you would consider cheap but Virtualis is a very fast host and charges no set up fees. You can sign up as a repand get a 25% discount on your own domain. I currently have 3 domains with them and will be adding 2 more in the next couple weeks.

A side note: Make sure that the hosting company you pick will list you as the Admin contact for your site. It can be a headache if you want to move your site or change your info.

Virtualis is one of the most recommended hosts when this type of question is asked, and I do highly recommend there services. They are very competitive, especially now that they have dropped their setup fee for new sites.

There are also a handful of sites that are similar in nature to ClickQuick, but rather focus on reviewing web hosts. I would take what some of them say with a rather large grain of salt, since some do seem to be failry biased towards their advertisers.

A good place to start might be: http://www.toptenlinks.com/internet/...resources.vote which lists about a dozen of these types of sites.

Ericy,

I get asked that question quite a bit, and I can tell you that the answer to that is a very changing issue.

Small hosts are todays fast, cheap, and reliable. In only six months that can become slow and unreliable. I have lived through this issue many times over. Be careful not choosing a company that's too new. They will almost always be the cheapest, and you will feel their growing pains.

About once every few months I visit http://webhostlist.internetlist.com/ I usually spend an entire weekend combing through their site to see what's new.

To answer your question you need to think a little about what you need. If you just need the hard drive space to park a site your needs are much less than if you want to install cgi, or some other server side application. Most of the "cheapies" have very poor customer service. I don't consider myself a web "master" by any means. But when calling prospective web hosts to get a feel for them, I was surprised to find out how many had tech support or sales associates that had no clue about specific services.

I could give you specifics about specific hosts that are beyond the scope of this forum, if you care to e-mail me.

Regards,
Questy

Check out www.pair.com I have been using them for a few years now. There rates start out at $4.95 a month. I just setup a new domain there last week and they had my domain name activated in 3 days.

Well i think this should stick with most webmasters ..

I have a really cool suggestion .

Why not you host your domain with http://www.webjump.com . They host your domain for free and give you 24 hour support and 25 megs of harddisk space . In exchange they put banners on each and every page you host with them .What i and many of my friends are planning to do is to host one page with them and put an auto forwarding javascript element in that page . This will forward the user to our page which is hosted in non-banner free hosting sites such as http://www.mysp.com or http://www.xoom.com . You get your free hosting and Webjump gets their banner displayed .

Pretty good deal huh ?

Heartz

Well Heartz if you visit my site you would know that I know all the free domain hosting services out there. And all of them of course require a banner on your site. And yes of course you can just use the index page and use it to lead to free hosting pages that doesn't require a banner. And you can even cloak the free hosting pages using frames. Heartz I would not use webjump for any reason cause it *****. If you want a complete list of free domain hosting services I suggest you visit http://members.xoom.com/free_source/domain.html
It has over 20 of them listed. But I want something that doesn't require a banner.

Heartz,

If you think about what Ericy is saying here, it pretty much confirms my beliefs stated in the other thread. Ericy is telling you where the list is for the "free" services, but he is looking for a cheap, fast, and reliable, host.

My business experience tells me that generally speaking, the lower the cost, the lower the service. The key is finding a reliatively low cost web host that gives you relatively good service.

I know many folks that have found some surprising good service for $15 or less. I don't think this is an awful lot to spend, especially if the goal is to make money from the site.

HTH,
Questy

A good free hosting service I use is www.virtualave.net. Check my site out http://websitetrader.virtualave.net

I also use a cheap commercial provider (www.icom.com). Check them out at http://www.icom.com. Check my site at
http://www.maintenanceworld.com

Hope this helps..........Lutz

A good company which I can recommend is IperWeb. They offer a nice package (with domain name hosting and an IP address) for $10 a month, paid for a year at a time (i.e. $120 a year)

I have hosted 5 sites with them for varying times between 1 year and 7 months. No real problems; of course, the server is down occasionally, but not a quarter as much as the pair of servers I am foolishly paying $900 a month for!

Only downside to IperWeb is stats: only weekly, and only the most basic information. But if you can live with that, I think you'll be hard pressed to beat their price and service level elsewhere.

One hosting service I **will not** recommend is my current host -- Bell Atlantic. After 4 years with the same provider, who went belly up, I switched to Bell Atlantic thinking the big boys might be a better hosting option -- wrong. My decision was made in haste at a time when I had just paid for an advertising promotion and my current/old provider was letting their servers run unattended.. Unfortunately, my contract with BA is for 6 months.. After that I will be going with Virtualis. It seems as though my domain twsonline.com generates so much traffic that it exceeds Bell Atlantic's BEST hosting option's data transfer limits. Now, I will endure being charged for the amounts exceeding their limits. With my last provider, I never had accurate stats so wasn't clear as to how popular my domain was in terms of overall traffic. Now I know. With Virtualis, you get 30BG data transfer per month -- with is far better than the 3GB with Bell Atlantic. So, after a long and windy response to your question, if you think at any point that your site will generate traffic that exceeds your host's limits, go with one who doesn't nickel and dime you to death when you do... Especially DO NOT make the mistake that I made in going with a company with only 3 hosting options -- their best being less than adequate for a serious webmaster and site owner..

Cheers!

Not necessarily an advertisement -- but a comparison. I didn't "discover" Virtualis until AFTER I switched hosting companies, so... Hey, bottom line is that this is what my experience has been. If you didn't want any feedback, then you shouldn't have asked for it... Sale or no sale, I offered valid points to consider with ANY hosting option and I didn't indicate to you that Virtualis was to be YOUR choice, I just know that it's going to be MINE once my contract with BA is over.. http://www.very-cool-stuff.com/ubb/smile.gif

Cheers..
