Question Methods of receiving payments from sponsors ?

I have closed a 2 month sponsorship agreement with a company based in the USA for one of my sites and the company is ready to send payment first.

Now that paypal.com has stopped international members like myself from withdrawing funds to my Visa or Mastercard, i can't accept the payments.

The amount is only a couple hundred dollars so wire transfer is out of the question ?

That leaves cheques, money orders ?

what is out there at the moment for convenient transfer of US funds to Australian bank accounts ?

thanks http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I think the best way to pay is to send CashCard to you. Every time you get payment , your company may deposit money to that card and you can withraul cash everywhere in the world. Just check this sites http://www.epacific.com and http://www.infinia.com .

George, I seem to remember you were searching for a merchant solution a few months ago. The virtual abolition of Australia from PayPal's service makes this a more essential service, and will allow you to receive payments via credit card again.

Of course, offering your advertisers the ability to pay via money order or check is important also; just try to strike up an agreement with your bank to clear foreign checks on the spot.

hi czar

yes i am still looking into either www.revecom.com or www.instabill.com for a credit card accepting solution for accepting hosting a/c payments http://geekvillage.com/ubb/wink.gif (probably know what i am up to hehe)

hmmm.. i could start earlier with one of the above and get the sponsor to pay via credit card ?

one question with overseas money orders - do i bank those with my bank ? Australia post only deal with local money orders right ?

if someone in the US pays via money order in US dollars do i bank that with my bank or Australia post ?

As to foriegn cheque clearance, my bank NAB ain't being so accommodating and insist on 40 days clearance http://geekvillage.com/ubb/eek.gif

So i am gonna use a Commonwealth Bank a/c for this (have to reopen a new a/c cause i didn't realise they closed my old one for having a zero balance hehe).

You should make money order deposits at your bank. These clear instantly, much like traveller's checks.

That's a nasty hassle. Hopefully your CBA account will understand the importance of eliminating such cashflow crises...hopefully. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/wink.gif

I don't know about Australia, by Western Union Money Order is pretty convienent for even small amounts from all over the world, to UK. I assume it would be the same to receive in Australia

It also has the advantage that the sender pays the fee, and you can get money out as cash the next day (probably even the same day but I haven't tried that). The disadvantage is that the sender has to visit Western Union, at least as far as I know, and you have to visit your local branch to get the money.

Get the sender to send you the MCTN, City of the branch where they sent it, and full name as filled out on the form, and I've never had a problem collecting these, and I get some of these every week

You can send money via W.U. by using a credit card over the web.

Hmmm, which has me thinking. Is the paypal problem in Oz just that you cannot drop the cash out to your own card? So you can still use paypal to make a credit card payment over the web?

If a sponsor wants to use paypal, you could still get cash by using your paypal to buy a money transfer at Western Union.

the problem is funds sent to my paypal account are listed in the main page but there's an accept and deny button next to them - to accept the payment and lodge it into my paypal a/c i need to have a US bank account from now on without a US bank a/c the money can stay unaccepted (hence not useable by me) for 30 days before paypal automatically declines the funds and sends it back to the sender

I had to contact Bruce at searchbucks.com to decline my March pay and send a cheque instead http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif

seems everyone is picking on Australia... look at our Aussie dollar http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif

thanks Czar for clearing that up, i asked my sponsor to pay via money order this time round and gave them and Bruce @searchbucks.com a link to infinia.com as well to see if they are interested in using them http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

I also am going with revecom.com for my merchant solution so i'll post my experiences with them later http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

You were misinformed. WU works in pretty well any country in the world. It even kept working in Russia at the height of their banking crisis in '98.

Well I am in the UK, and have personally received WU payments from USA, Canada, Taiwan, Eastern European countries, and probably a few more I can't remember right now

I just checked WU's site, https://www1.westernunion.com/webmt/MTCountrySel.asp . Here is what I saw:

Select the country you are sending from.
UNITED STATES (only available from the U.S. - includes U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Guam.)

Am I in the right place?
