Alert: Code Red Worm Status - geek/talk: Web publishing business discussion

I regularly recieve these from the nice folks at DI. This one just came in a few moments ago. Iv'e edited out the customer data/links:

"Dear Dialtone Internet Customer,

Code Red Worm Status Report

According to security experts, the Code Red worm is likely
to begin a new cycle of scanning and infection today. Vulnerable
servers are Windows 2000 and NT running IIS server. Servers
running Linux are NOT affected.

----end-----

I suggest you immediately contact your host to insure your server is properly pathched.

The newer version of the worm was supposed to attack on wednesday morning (depending on your time zone). It has passed of peacfully with no major disruptions. This time people took precautions. One thing to note is that this version had remote control functions too.

If some one can make a worm to slow the internet down, then in five years some one will probbaly invent a worm that kills the internet. First it's E-mail viruses, now they attack web pages. Five years ago we never hurd anything about E-mail viruses.

I almost made a script to jam any cellphone network which suppports sms. I was always tempted to try it out on a network but restrained myself. It's really very simple when you get to know the hole or the technology a particular software/network is using. And that's scary
