Unhappy Copying news?

Is it legal to copy news from a site like abc.com and put it on webpage while citing it(put a link saying that the artilce was taken from abc.com and also put a link to the location of the news story)?

I don't think you can copy it in it's entirety. There are "fair use" clauses for copyrights - where you can quote small portions of it... but not the entire thing.

yeah i do alot of citing news and stuff for my site theprequels.net - reporting on the latest starwars prequels happenings http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

sites such as EOnline ! and stuff check out their terms of use etc

as long as you cite the author's full name and title of the article, link to article and only quote portions of an article it should be okay...

If you're doing this alot email them and ask. EOnline was fine when i cited alot of their news last year before and after The Phantom Menace came out http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

I would highly recommend that everyone read http://www.eff.org/pub/CAF/law/multimedia-handbook in regards to websites and copyright laws. Pay close attention to the "Myths".

Take care,
