Default Google moves against spam blogs

There have been a lot of problems and plenty of angry people because of spam blogs, which are also known as "splogs," at Google's blogging service named Blogger.

Automated programs are a serious problem, so Google is starting to require blogs that their spam classifier decides is spammy to type some letters which can't be read by a computer but can by human beings. This is causing a reduction in the spammy blogs.

The two main purposes of these spammy blogs is to try to produce extra links in hopes of having an impact on the PageRank system and/or make extra money from AdSense and other advertising programs by using recycled content.

Experts don't seem to agree on just how many of these spam blogs there are, with estimates ranging from 2 percent to 30 percent of all new blogs.

Even though they don't agree on the numbers, they do agree that it is going to be much easier to deal with the creation of spammy blogs than it is to get a good handle on e-mail spam.
