Default Free web space with FTP access

Can somebody tell me a place with free webspace which also allows me to FTP the files into it (I have a **lot** of files I want to put publically accessible, and don't want to store them on my office computers).

Any place with FTP will do, but I'd prefer somewhere with plenty of space, and their banners embedded in the page, rather in those horrid popups

Is Angelfire or Tripod anygood for that. I don't know anything about these kind of free web space places.

Wildputer, I am so glad you asked. There is a company called freenetname and it gives away a free .co.uk or org.uk to any signups. They are an ISP and you have to be logged on to them to be able to upload files and receive mail but I think a free domain will offset this inconvenience, even if it isnt a .com

I got one, http://www.virtuedesign.co.uk

The url for the company is http://www.freenetname.co.uk

they have 20mb of space.

Thanks for the tips guys - tell me more :-)

I have like a *lot* of small HTML files that I need to put somewhere accessible, and I don't want to host on my office's server.

Exact appearance is not important to, so I don't care if the service stuffs in a banner

I think I have to signup for a few services, preferably one's where I can start WS_FTP and go for coffee or a smoke or something while it uploads the files.

Rules are pretty strict if you are using homepage as a personal site, you agree NOT to:

displaying a sponsorship banner of any kind, including those that are generated by banner or link exchange services, other than those provided by HomePage.com;

displaying banners for services that provide cash or cash-equivalent prizes to users in exchange for hyperlinks to their web sites, other than those provided by HomePage.com;

advertising or soliciting the sale of member pages or subdomains through any means other than those provided by HomePage.com;

providing a link to a commercial site, outside of a HomePage.com-approved program, unless that link may be construed exclusively as a service to your visitors and you receive no individual payment or consideration by providing that link.

Geez, strictly a just for fun site!

try xoom.com. As long as it's legal, they won't delete it. Unlimited webspace with FTP access. Works for me.

Now they show you how detergents take out bloodstains, a pretty
violent image there. I think if you've got a T-shirt with a bloodstain
all over it, maybe laundry isn't your biggest problem.

You know I actually signed up for Xoom webspace a long time ago, and never used it, after I read their TOS. I still can't get off their e-mail list :-)

kris - did you see this in their TOS - what is not allowed includes "displaying on your page any paid advertising or other paid sponsorship banner other than a XOOM.com affiliate program or affiliate partner.".

I think this could turn into a good discussion, regardless of that I end up using.

David mention the thing because it's a good deal in the UK.

In Britain an ISP can get a portion of the call charges (we pay for local calls) so they can afford to give away web space, e-mail, domain names...anything to keep us online longer and racking up that phone bill.

Nearly every ISP is now free and ISPs include electronics stores, banks, supermarkets, Shell gas stations....and hey even some internet companies :-)

Yeah, it only costs members of nominet (uk registrar) 5pound per domain so they can recoup the costs in no time even if only like 5% chose to use them as theyr proprietary ISP.

Costs them 5pound, they charge us 90quid! we are being ripped off for domains!

WC, yes i did read that. I thought you only needed space to store downloads. If you need to store html files with sponsor ads, definitely not a good idea to go with them.

-Davidg1234, the free domain name is a good deal, but they only accept people residing in UK. In order to use them, i would have to dial long-distance. Darn.
