Thumbs up Traffic Idea

I just thought of this idea, and started using it on my site.

It's kind of like mailbits "tell a friend" but I call it: AIM a friend.

On (most) every page on my site I have a button that says "AIM THIS PAGE TO A FRIEND" and when clicked it pops up a blank AIM IM with a message saying: Check out this cool page: URL

Here's an example:

Anyway, thought it was a neat traffic building idea, one thing though is that the url in the AIM code can't have a & in it.. if someone finds a way around that post it please.

Here's the code:

Code:

<a href=aim:goim?screenname=&message=Hey+Check+Out+This+Funny+Pic+Site++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++http://www.comicalpics.com> <IMG SRC=aimtoafriend.gif border=0 </img></A>
Enjoy!

Not a bad idea, actually...
Is there anyone who knows how to do this with ICQ?

Whenever I need to send something across the URL in ASP I use the URLEncode function, this will turn the Ampersand (&) into - %26

Replace your &'s with this and it should then accept it.

I have no experience with AIM so I am not sure about the rest of it but it may have solved your problem

Matt, nice idea, but I don't know why you'd choose that over Mailbits.

You're not going to earn any revenue through promoting AOL's service, and while almost everyone on the Net has access to email, relatively few people outside of the US use AIM.

I don't mean to be critical, but that's my 2 cents.

I live in sweden, and everyone and their mother use ICQ. Of course, AIM is worthless, because its America only, and we all know that AOL is evil and worthless.

Well, not just the US http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif There's always the rather oxymoronic "AOL Canada"
