Anyone have any ideas / thoughts on monetizing valentines day? Obviously we can try to push flowers, chocolate etc., but so is Yahoo and everyone else.

Let's share some creative ideas or past experiences......

Clipart, poetry, recipes, craft ideas are always big traffic-generators around holiday periods, but traffic alone doesn't necessarily mean money anymore.

To generate revenue from this, you could always use the ever-faithful searchbox programs. "Valentines Day" and "Valentines Day Gifts" are high-paying terms.

I have, in fact, been seeing great response rates through these on a few of my own Valentine's Day sites:
http://www.cupidsfreebies.com
http://www.lovelaughs.com
http://www.all-4-free.com/cupid50/autorank.html
and http://www.poetry.com.au

Other options are affiliate programs as you mentioned, which will be most effective if you setup a whole 'virtual storefront' for your gift store, rather than just link to a few sites.

Websponsors.com, too, is currently running a Valentine's Day Sweepstakes competition, for which you are paid when your visitors sign up for the chance to win a pair of open-heart earrings from Tiffany & Co. As you can imagine, this is currently producing high response rates.
