Urgent Photoshop question

Hi geeks. I'm hoping there's a Photoshop pro lurking this morning (before I pull out ALL my hair)

I'm used to web not print.
So - I'm making a business card.
set it to 300dpi (or more)
now I'm stuck on the stupidest thing. When I try to extend the canvas size (from 3.5X2 to 3.75X2.25 - for print overbleed or whatever) .... it goes to 7.25X4.25. I've done and redone it several times.... adding only .25 of an inch to the size.. Any ideas why it's enlarging so much? I'm stumped *sigh*

Will cross my fingers - keep struggling - and check back later (hoping someone can shed some light).

maybe because it adjust all the canvas to the proportion you are giving, and maybe it interprets that value as 25% or something like that. You need to search for a "keep proportion" value, or you can try with shift and mouse, or control and mouse, i dont know right now wich one to use.
