efreeserver.com has a very very impressive offers e.g. dell server with P3 833mhz, 256ram,200GB/month and more for only $299/month asnd you get/own the server after 20 months ... i have no experience with them before bcos its too expensive for me, but i seen several good reviews about them at webhostingtalk.com and thought that it might be a great deal for some big guys here http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

by the way, anyone has any experience with them?

If I become big someday, I'm considering to build a dual Pentium III with >1 GB RAM, IDE RAID and colocate it with efreeservers.com at a cost of $400 a month, for 400 GB of bandwidth.

You are missing something very important.
You are required to sign a 20 month contract.
Would that server be any good in 20 months?

That's why I'm only considering their colocation, not their dedicated servers.

ops i missed out the 20 months term http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif

by the way, how much does it cost to build a dual P3 833mhz, 1GB ram, and 10+GB HD?

you mean build it yourself or buy it ?

i'm looking at mainly www.racksaver.com (http://www.racksaver.com) and www.penguincomputing.com (http://www.penguincomputing.com)

there's also www.compunite.com (http://www.compunite.com) and www.pogolinux.com (http://www.pogolinux.com)

Singloon:

I have been noticing that you've done quite some research on dedicated servers, hosting, etc. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Good job!

thanks singloon .. i agree with zman, you have been helping a lot of people regarding server at webhostingtalk.com http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

really sorry for the unclear post, actually i mean i buy a custome one and have it colocated, as it is impossible for me to build it myself and send a server to the hosting company ... too time consuming and expensive http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif

i have visted some of the link singloon stated, but can't estimate the total amount ... anyone has any idea? can it be done within $1500?

hehe yeah been doing my research since i'm planning ahead to have a dedicated mysql database server colocated with my current host if my plans work out but like you i can't build a server if my life depended on it http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif

for US$1500 not sure.. i'd ask around at webhostingtalk.com you could probably get it done at that price if you bought the parts and built it yourself otherwise getting it prebuilt would cost more but i like the idea of having 2 - 3 yr warranty of the prebuilt ones

my web host uses servers from www.racksaver.com (http://www.racksaver.com) but i'm looking at www.penguincomputing.com (http://www.penguincomputing.com) right now which is cheaper for a dual p3 1ghz, 2gb (2 x 1GB sticks) ram and 2 x 36GB SCSI drives than racksaver

of course i have no money for it right now http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif

thanks singloon for your reply.

my sites is growing and using more and more resources and bandwidth and i have more new projects to launch this year. well, i dont have the money either, but i am going to do some budgeting and hopefully by the end of this eyar i will be able to earn enough money to have a pre-built one http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif ... i think i can get what i want for $1500 by the end of this year http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif
