Richard Parsons, chief executive officer of Time Warner says that America Online is not for sale. He also said that AOL is an undervalued part of Time Warner and he wants to improve the performance of AOL.

Time Warner wants to turn around AOL and they believe that AOL can be a big help to Time Warner.

This is a lot different than what had once been said when it was believed that AOL was hurting Time Warner.

About a year ago, I saw a number of reports from analysts concerning the vlaue of Time Warner that effectively valued the AOL division from the single-digit millions to zero - or less. That was obviously as dramatic and unfair an overcorrection as the overinflations that drove AOL to be valued at greater than the pre-acquisition Time Warner during the boom days.

Now, AOL certainly has value. It's still one of the biggest and strongest brands online, has a huge base of subscribers and a huge content library. It also has a significant search service, a couple of significant browser brands, an enviable portal and a staff of very savvy ad sales people. AOL's prospects are pretty solid these days - particularly now that the MSN deal has been dismissed.
