I'd like to know the best Banner Exchange from everyones thoughts. First of all theres Linkexchange being the most popular, and free-banners.com is good because it pays you aswell as being a banner swap 9anyone know of any others?). Then the most showing of your ads is probably plemx.com, soehow every 4 impressions you show, gets you 5 in return, and they have a bonus of a starting 250. So your thoughts on the best one ok, and anyone know of any banner exchanges, or even button exchanges that pay like free-banners.cpom?

IMHO - Forget about 250 impressions. If you're lucky that's like 2 visitors. If you're unlucky that's 0 visitors.

My experiences with the exact same banner

LinkExchange - terrible CTR

SmartClicks - 0.7% CTR

FreeBanners - 0.7% CTR but I quit them cos of bikini type banners in circulation, problems tracking forms type pages

LinkHut - never seemed to use up my impressions. Gave up

GreatLinks - couldn't seem to upload my banner. Never responded to multiple e-mails. Gave up.

Exchange-it - 1.5% CTR, good targetting, good referral program, 5 banners at once, and cool time-of-day to show banners option. It's easy to work up to an awesome CTR using these guys, see http://www.hits4me.com/mer_be.asp

Exchange-it is the best general banner exchange I've used in my opinion.

Also tried

CoolStats.com - 10K free impressions. Most banners in the network are for get paid to surf sites. Reasonable CTR if you target this audience.

EZtraffic.net - actually looks surprisingly good. They give you a summary list of the URLs where you're banner was shown and where it gets clicks. I could definitely put this information to great use, so I may start using them more.

Anyway don't just look at the ratio or initial credits, look at where you banner is shown, what kind of banners you want to host, do banners display fast, what extra features u like, etc.

BTW try search on this topic in webmaster issues and making money, as until recently we didn't have a promotion forum, so no obvious place for this discussion to live

I'd have to agree 101% with WildComputer. The free banner exchanges are not really worth taking up the space on your web site.

The best experience I've had with banners is getting an adrotating program and putting up banners that are targeted towards my audience. (usually promoting affiliate programs I belong to) I usually get a 6-7% click thru ratio that way.

Allan Gardyne of AssociatePrograms had an interesting take on banner advertising. He said he uses FreeBanners to create his brand image and get his name out there. I suppose that's a good idea, but I personally have found them to be very ineffective.

I wrote an article about those free banner exchanges, you can read it here http://www.irby-enterprises.com/articles/04.html

Maybe that came out sound wrong. My point is (a) banner exchanges can be good if you earnings per visitor are high, and (b) if you choose the right banner exchange for you.

Actually I use exchange-it a lot, but have pretty much given up on all the rest.

Logic:

Relatively untargetted CPC banners, you know the companies
i average about 0.25% CTR on CPCs
for 1000 banners
say $0.20 per click

earns = 0.0025 X 1000 X 0.20 = $0.50 CPM

Exchange it,
1% CTR on my banner
for 1000 pageviews = 500 banner displays

earns = 0.01 X 500 X EPV = ( 5 X EPV ) CPM

so if 5 X my EPV > 0.50, or EPV > $0.10 then it's worth it
