Unhappy Google drops rates as well.

From my inbox:

Dear Google Affiliate,

Beginning September 1, 2000, Google will change the reimbursement
policy for our affiliate program. We will be offering one cent
instead of three cents for each search from your site to us. This
letter outlines the reasons for this change as well as some
enhancements we will be adding to the program.

First, we greatly appreciate your participation in the Google
affiliate program. Thanks to your help and word of mouth from our
current Googlers, the number of new Google users has continued to
steadily increase.

As you may be aware, we dedicate nearly all of our company's
resources to making Google the web's most effective site for
finding answers. We have always believed that developing a great
service is the best marketing a company could have. To that end we
have recently added these new features:

o Increased the Google index to over 1 billion web pages, the largest
index on the web

o Launched beta versions of Chinese, Japanese and Korean language search

o Introduced wireless search for mobile phones (more info at:
<URL:http://www.google.com/wap.html> )

o Launched a beta version of free site search (sign up at:
<URL:http://services.google.com/cobrand/free_trial> )

Because we wish to continue investing in developing our technology, we
are focusing our expenditures on hiring additional engineers and
purchasing new equipment. This means we have fewer resources available
for the affiliate program, successful though it has been.

We hope you will chose to continue with the program once this change
takes effect. If you wish to remain a Google affiliate, you need not
do anything. If you wish to withdraw from the program, you may do so
by removing the affiliate search box from your site.

We believe that focusing on our technology will pay off in a better
search engine and a greater number of visitors clicking through from
your site. Just two examples of this are the new affiliate search
features we've added:

o SafeSearch - ensure that your users see results free of adult content

o International Language - offer the Google user interface in five
European languages. (Links to these affiliate boxes can be
found at <URL:http://google.reporting.net> )

Whether you decide to remain a Google affiliate is of course, your
choice. Whatever you decide, we thank you for having selecting Google
as your search partner. We hope that you will continue to find our
service a fast, reliable and easy-to-use way to search the web.

If you wish to give us your feedback or concerns, please email us at
affiliate-help@google.com

Sincerely,
The Google Affiliate Team

Wow, 1 cent per search now. I would think that after Yahoo started using Google vs. Inktomi, changes would be to 4, or 5 cents.
