I was wondering if anyone has suggestions on very high quality networks for a dedicated server. I am tired of looking for the cheapest deal, as it always seems to backfire. I am therefore looking for a company that has very good service and uptime.
I have heard that rackspace and vdi are both very good. Are there any others out there? |

Ventures Online (http://www.venturesonline.com) has so far shown very promising service. They are based with VDI.

Thanks guys,
I decided to try a server at venturesonline. I'm hoping that this one performs better than the one I bought last week. A person can loose a lot of money quite quickly by going with a company with poor support. ------------------ http://www.100megsfree.com |

I guess I can vouch for Venturesonline.com
(again thanks to eva2000.com) Speed is fast, network is good. But best of all, service is EXCELLENT. Most of my server problems get solved usually within an hour or so, unless you got them in the wee hours of the morning. You can also checkout my site in the sig to test for speed. I'm clocking around average 400 users/hour and max of 800 visitors/hour. ------------------ Ex Anime Genesis dot Com - Anime Entertainment Channel |

My usual list of hosts: http://www.serverhost.com - great prices and good network, not for server newbies.
http://www.pwebtech.com - amazing connectivity (over 20 connections). Their support is close to RackSpace. http://www.energyhosting.com - They use data centers in different locations, all good connectivity. I would be careful with venturesonline. They are run by some of the same people who run Ultraspeedusa that was good at the begining but kept getting worse. If you must have a VDI servers (no real reason for that), take a look at http://interserver.net/ [This message has been edited by RK (edited 04-02-2001).] |

Actually,
Serverhost is the company I am running from. I put out $1000 last month for a server with them, and I have yet to hear back from their sales or support staff. They won't even send me an invoice so that I can prove how much I have spent on the server for my taxes. I had my server go down last night around 9:00 P.M. It took until noon today for them to do a simple reboot. A full 15 hours. It appears there is only one person at the whole company that has physical access to the servers, so if he isn't around you just have to sit and wait for them to show up. I'll keep the server to run my ad serving software, but I definately can't trust it for clients sites with support like that. |

regier,
If you are in their Ohio data center than you should ask them to move you to Greenville. Try emailing support@serverhost.com for support, Tim should be able to help you. Email 911@serverhost.com if it's an emergency (server down etc). |

Actually, I am in the greenville data center.
support@serverhost.com went unanswered, so after a half hour I tried 911@serverhost.com, while trying to connect on the phone. A couple of hours latter I tried both again, as well as support@plusweb.com and 911@plusweb.com. Another couple hours later I was able to get through on the phone to tim. He was quite nice, but stated that he has no access to the box and that I had to wait to hear back from Jeff. He also suggested that I try 911@serverhost.com again. The next morning when I woke up I sent another email to support@serverhost.com and that one finally got answered a couple of hours later. It was Jeff saying that he sent someone to reboot it, and wanted to know if the server was back up. Hopefully this was just a rare crossing of signals and that I don't have the problem again. Jeff later told me that they will try to install a remote power reboot so that Tim will be able to reboot it in the future. I responded asking how long until this happens, but as usual my question has gone unanswered. |

It seems to be happening again. I guess they offer 24 hour reboots as long as the server goes down during their regular business hours. I wonder what the chances are that they will get around to rebooting it before monday.
I also noticed that they changed the listing of their connections. One of their centers used to claim a 1000 Mb/s line and 3 or 4 DS3 plus a couple t1's to boot. Now it is supposedly just a single 100 Mb/s line. It is odd how they can downgrade that quickly http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif |

rackspace has a promo now, if you have signedup with rackspace you can send them an email to the billing department and ask them to give you a better price related to their promo here is the link to their promo which requires a 6month contract (no setup fee) for dedicated hosting on linux.
