Thumbs down Comment spammers and phishers take to Twitter in droves

The latest platform of preference for many phishers, spammers, identity thieves and other nasties is the Web 2.0 darling Twitter.

The micro-blogging service is particularly susceptible to abuse due to the addictive nature of its service, a recent spate of password thefts and - perhaps most notably - due to its use of a URL masking service to shorten web addresses. That technique, in particular, is making it easy for unscrupulous types to hide otherwise-telltale destination addresses and to therefore trick more unsuspecting readers into believing that it's safe to click on a spammer's link.

I first heard of Twitter a few days ago on CNN, this guy kept plugging it with MySpace and Facebook. It it any better or like the other two does the entire site have massive load times? (Not on dial-up anymore, but that doesn't mean that the excessiveness doesn't still tick me off.)

Twitter's all about micro-blogging. Each post has a 140 character limit, so they're tiny snippets of text-based information. As such, it loads very quickly and is becoming a popular pastime for users of smartphones (if frustrating for those around them ). It's very different from Facebook and MySpace, but is often mentioned in the same sentence as the other two because it's social in nature and has been a darling of the Web 2.0 world since its launch.
