I'm just wondering is this a good offer for dedicated server.
Dual PIII 600, 512mb RAM, 9 GB SCSI HDD and this with 3mbit dedicated connection to internet. 3mbit can handle 20 GB/day transfer. All this on the price of $1.700/month. So what do you think, is this good price ?

I currently have the following server from CAIS.com for $400.00/month. It was a special deal, for webmasters who got ******* over by eFront Media. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif The site it's for uses 16Gigs/day+, and the server handles the load quite nicely.

- Unix OS
- 2U Rackmount Enclosure w/PowerSupply
- Dual P3 Motherboard
- (2) Intel PIII 550 MHz Processor
- ITI6100 U2 SCSI Controller
- 512MB RAM ECC PC100 (1 X 128MB DIMM)
- 4 MB Video
- Intel 10/100 Ethernet
- 9GB SCSI IBM HDD IBM 7200 RPM
- Sony 1.44 Floppy drive
- Bandwidth is 128Kbs-10Mbs Bustable

B.t.w, I paid $0.00 setup! If you're interested, l.m.k and I'll go talk to them for you. I am not sure if they still have any more servers left, though. Their only down-side is the support, but it depends if you can live with no-expert support or not.

I have e-mailed my contact at CAIS, but since it's a long-weekend here in U.S.A (Memorial Day) I won't probably get a reply until Tuesday. I'll keep you updated!

Bandwidth is 128Kbs

16 GB per day is 480 GB per month.
128 Kbps will only do 40 GB per month.

How much do you pay for the extra 440 GB?

I pay much more than $1.7k now. I'm at splitinfinity's dedicated server now. They are pretty expensive, over $4/GB. Let me know when you receive respond from CAIS. It would be great to host on such a cheap host, of course if it's fast and good http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

You will probably be surprised with your next bill, zMan.

Usually means that you are allowed 128 kbps average per month but can burst to 10 Mbps when you need to as long as your average is below 128, if it is above then you pay extra.
No host will give you 480 GB for only $400 a month.
