Default MySQL 4 and MySQL 5

I want to know the dfferance between these two versions of MySQL. Some companies offers both versions.
So which one is better to choose?

I know that some companies offers both versions of MySQL 4 and MySQL 5. Among these companies I can mention A2hosting.com as they support PHP 5.2.4, MySQL 4.1.x, MySQL 5.0.x, PostgreSQL 8.2.x, Ruby on Rails 1.2.x. I think it's done for clients' convenience.

On an application-level, MySQL 5 offers more features, but I can imagine some applications don't support the newer version of MySQL, and thus require MySQL 4.

So I think those companies offer MySQL 4 and MySQL 5 for backwards compatibility -- if you're developing a new application, then, without a doubt, go for MySQL 5.

Really depends on the type of application you're trying to run or build. For most causes, MySQL 4 does the trick. Won't be far off until all the hosts start to make the switch over to MySQL 5.
