Default How to make a $100,000.00 domain name from just $8

The domain carbuy.com was going to cost me about $100k to purchase. So if found this one: http://www.CarBuyCom.com for $8.00. How is that for a deal. I am thinking about buying a bunch of domains like that by just adding com on the end. What does everyone else think?

Regards,

CJ

I think you might be infringing on some trademarks and copyrights.

I would guess that copyright would be more of an issue if you tried to create a very similar site. There are lots of websites out there which live only because they are misspellings or variations of a major domain name... untied.com vs united.com comes to mind... but the content is much different. FYI, amazon.com bought amizon.com and amezon.com. I wouldn't recommend that you visit cokecom.com... you'll be killed slowly with pop-ups.

Just my 2 cents

Those aren't brandable, and you're likely to get sued by companies that have the legitimate domains if they can prove your attempt to profit off their trademark or any other legal avenue allowed by ICANN.

I'd save your $8 and look for quality domain name drops coming up.

Hi. Just thought I'd add that these kind of sites get minimal type-in traffic.

I think you should steer away from com.com names. It just sounds confusing to me. The only name that has ever made since like these was slashdot.org, but that's just my opinion...

I've never liked these domains and I think the end user would just get confused anyway. also if you do happen to stumble accross a good one - be careful because the owners of the site you are infringing will take it by force and you'll be left with nothing.

What is the advantage to doing that unless you are doing it to specifically piggy back off of an established site and then you get into Trademark infringement issues (not a copyright issue if I understand it correctly but a Trademark issue).

yeah this is not good- i would be careful here and don't go buying up every major brand name site and adding com at the end... you will get squashed...there are better ways to get good domains

I would think it would end up being a waste; misspelled domains seem to be better

Even mis-spelled domains can infringe on copyrights. I would steer clear of anything to do with trademark names.

everyone here is right. if you do this, none of those companies will want to buy the domain from you, they'll just take it by force on the grounds of trademark infringement. you cant profit in any way from someone else's trademark.

Doesn't sound like a good strategy. I can imagine the lawsuits from large companies.
