Default MSN outranks Google

I typed in the words 'search' and 'search engine' into google and MSN comes up ahead of Google on a google search...just thought this was interesting. I wonder if Google will employ some illegal tactics to boost their own ranking

That's hilarious. I hadn't heard that before.

Time for another magic algorithm change, me thinks.

Here I found a script that combines Google and Yahoo search bars at another forum. But here is the link its called GahooYoogle . Type in a the words search or search engine and see what your results will be. You will get a split screen of both the Google and Yahoo search for the words.

For me on yahoo I got:
1. CNEt
2. MSN
3. Alta Vista
4. Google

Google
1.MSN
2. Search (.) com
3. Google
4. My Excite

Interesting results though. Even though Yahoo and Google seem to be discussed more with how they index their pages and what not. But that Msn beats Google out on their own search engine.

There is nothing illegal about it, and even if Google did it's there ball game, they can make what ever they want to make #1

I honestly do not understand people's assumption that the service provided by Google is somehow 'pristine' or un altered.

Google spends more money on it's servers and system than any one else.
Google can choose who ever Google WANTS to choose as #1

do they owe you anything?

Actually I just checked from Maryland and Google itself comes up #7 behind:
  1. Dogpile
  2. Altavista
  3. Ask.com
  4. Yahoo
  5. Wikipedia's page on search engines
  6. Lycos (I thought they went under?)

Hey David and welcome to Geek/Talk.

I'm sure thegauntlet's comment from 2006 was presented with his tongue firmly planted in his cheek and that he didn't mean to imply that Google somehow owes him something.

I look forward to reading more of your posts and think you'll find that this is a friendly and collaborative community and that industry veterans like thegauntlet have a great deal of value to offer.

I search with the term :: "search engine", Google is not in the top ten result. It is hilarious and the same time dictates Google's authenticity. The reason is that Google does not have the keyword "search engine" in its meta title and people never link it with the tag "search engine".

Google is the big dog. I'm sure they are not worried and they are always on top no matter how the results come back for search engine.

That is crazy in msn google doesn't come up until the second page though when I searched yahoo it came up 2nd on the list. I really don't think Google cares where they are within the SERPs since they still handle 60% of the worlds search load.
