Default Build a site with an all css layout

My previous post reminded me that I wanted to post a link to an outstanding resource.

{Disclaimer => I am a big fan of Big John and Holly Bergvin. They have a very good website and have helped thousands of webmasters with css. I have no affiliation nor financial interest in anything within their site or in this tool. This resource works for me. You may experience differing results. The FDA has not reviewed this product.
{/Disclaimer

If you have ever wanted a full css layout but couldn't quite get it going, here is the place for you. This is the CSS Source Ordered Variable Border 1 to 3 Column Page Maker by Cleva Treva http://www.positioniseverything.net/...maker_form.php.

This tool did not work in Firefox for a long while, but they have fixed that issue. The page made with this tool will be fully compliant with w3c standards. Unless you put in some funky stuff.

The first time you use this tool you should keep the box at the top of the form checked where it says "enable verbose comments". These comments (within the css) will help you understand what the various items are doing for your page. After you use the tool a time or two, you won't need to see the comments in the verbose mode any longer.

When you've selected your borders, column sizes, colors, background, etc., you click the button at the bottom of the page that says "show me".

Copy and paste the result into your fav html editor and you are almost done. You will need to download the static css file too. When you open your page in the editor you need to change the reference to the static css file to the location on your hard drive. Save your page as html, php or whatever and you have a new site built.

The active css is included in the head of your layout. After you are satisfied with any mods you want to make, you should cut this active css out of your document and paste it into the static css file.

This neat tool will position your content at the top of the page regardless of how many columns you elect to have (your header is waaaay down toward the bottom of the page). This is a very important technique for search engine awareness and serps. Your opening comments often show up in the listings right under your page title.

I have used this tool a lot. I think I have 5 sites that use the basic layout active right now. They don't all look the same, but the layouts are identical.

Did I mention that this is a free tool?

Have fun and build some great looking pages that will put your content right at the top of the page.
