Arrow THE GV Community RSS Feed is ready...

I like RSS a great deal. Use it on your PDA, Use it inside a browser, Use it on your site, just use it!

Lots of different ways to help GV continue to grow and prosper via your kind actions to insert the GV RSS Feed on your mainstream site.

This one took about 2 minutes:

I would love to read your input and examples on exactly how you inserted the GV RSS Feed on your site?

OK. I give up. What's the link to the RSS feed? I've looked everywhere I could think of to find a mention of the correct link. It might have been discussed in a previous thread but I can't find it. Searching the forums for "rss" doens't return any results (because of the 4 character minimum search term I think).

Normally I'd expect to see one of those small orange rss icons somewhere on the site.

Thanks

vB parses it first so use this:

http://www.geekvillage.com/forums/ex....php?type=rss2

Code:
http://www.geekvillage.com/forums/external.php?type=rss2

And we have just started....

This little gem for the very advanced vB Admin geek effectively renders humans who post news stories obsalete.

Description:

Article Bot is a script that allows you to assign a user account (preferably an exclusive one) to an article bot that will post RSS feeds in select forums at designated intervals. These articles are derived from RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds.

RSS files are assigned to article bots, as well to individual forums, which in turn directs what, when and where your article bot will post.

Thanks for announcing this, Steve. You found the link!

We also have XML, RSS1 and Javascript feeds available to those members who are interested in carrying Geek/Talk headlines on their sites. Feel free to enquire here if any of these options are of interest.

Arrow More tweaks...

Danka

Two more sources to syndicate the GV Forums Post on your site using the "easy" method:

http://www.feeddigest.com/

http://www.feedroll.com/rssviewer/

Additional tweaks for the RSS2/XML feed. This one grabs ALL the posts:

Code:
http://www.geekvillage.com/forums/external.php?type=rss2
To syndicate from one forum append this to the end of your feed url: &forumids=X where X is the id of the forum you wish to syndicate.

Example:

Code:
http://www.geekvillage.com/forums/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=48
To syndicate from more than one forum append this to the end of your feed url: &forumids=X,Y,Z where X Y and Z are the ids of the forums you wish to syndicate, you may specify upto 20 forum ids to pull content from using commas to separate each forum id.

Example:

Code:
http://www.geekvillage.com/forums/external.php?type=rss2&forumids=48,47,69
Finally, if you want better performance and more formatting control on your site, I strongly recommend that you install and use a caching RSS parser, like CaRP at http://carp.docs.geckotribe.com/download.php. It's an outstanding solution and rather complex to set up. Iv'e used the commercial version and love it.
