Default Consumer group files complaint against 'adware' firm

180 solutions has been accused of unfair and deceptive business practices by two civil liberties groups and they have filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

The complaints say that 180solutions is tricking Web users into downloading adware that can slow users' computers and deliver multiple pop-up ads.

According to a complaint 180 solutions continued downloading its adware to computers without the owners' consent after it was warned that what it was doing was unethical, and in some cases, illegal.

That's interesting. Like Claria/Gator, 180Solutions are old timers in the adware and scumware markets. Everyone who operates in that space will recognise the name, so this could work effectively as a deterrent in some circles, if the complaints turn into actions of enforcement.
