Default Sports/Handicapping Site for Sale - 2.5 yrs. old!

Your name: Tom A.

Your Email address: tom@scoresdaily.com

URL of the site: http://www.scoresdaily.com/

Age of site: Started back in January 2002 (corrected)

Traffic statistics (PageViews & Uniques ONLY): 1000-1500 pageviews a day from about 250 unique visitors.

Source of traffic: Most of the traffic comes from websites that have linked to us and direct requests, these days. However, we have a newsletter with 16,000-plus names on it. We have not been putting out the newsletter, and so the traffic has gone down considerably, but that mailing list will be sold along with the site. Probably 2000 or so visitors can be expected each day that the mailing list is mailed to, and it's a good way to get people to the site.

Asking price: $30,000.00

Gross and net revenue per month (Total): $500-1000/mo. right now. In the past it has been as high as $3000-4000, but we decided to stop accepting gaming/casino ads, and that decision has caused us to significantly reduce revenue.

The specific source of your revenue (Names/Details for each. DO NOT post your Google AdSense data): We have three or four deals with specific advertisers (mostly handicapping sites) where an advertiser pays us on a monthly basis. Additionally, we have a few affiliate deals that can be counted on for a couple hundred bucks a month. Currently we do not employ any sort of fastclick type advertising, but that is always a possibility for a new buyer.

Copyright status of the content on the site: The buyer will receive all copyrights to the page design, graphics, psd source files etc… The buyer also will receive the lasting copyrights to all archives on the site, save columns written by two of our writers, which will remain our property (Tom Alexander and Micah Hart). Most of these columns are pretty old, and they'll stay on the site, but they'll be our property.

Any other pertinent data: There are a number of things that should be noted about this site.

1. There is a content management program that we rent for $250/mo., which includes hosting, site maintenance, webstats, tracking, banner administration, and updating the site. You don't need to know HTML really, you just need to have an internet browser and you can update the site.

2. The mailing list is a great way to make money off of the site. We don't really use it because we're working on other properties, but this is a nice list of a lot of names.

3. Any buyer of the site will get a one-year contract for five columns per week from our existing staff of writers from the Chicago Sports Review. This will be an easy way to add one new piece a day to the site for the next year, and will save you a ton of money. If you figure 250 columns at $20 apiece, you are getting something like $5000 in free columns.

4. The buyer of the site will receive a spreadsheet that has all of our business contacts from the past two years. You are looking at probably 75-100 different legitimate business contacts in the industry for the site. So you'll have a leg up with a lot of different relationships, and we'll take you through and make sure you're aware of the history with each different relationship.

5. The buyer will receive the entire archives of the site, which is thousands of pieces, as well as the incoming links, the domain name, and everything else associated with the site.

6. The reason we are selling the site is twofold. First, we've started a print sports publication, and we're focusing on that. Second, we've decided to stop seeking advertising from gaming companies and casino companies, and this has curtailed our revenue. This is an excellent site with a lot of history, a lot of industry recognition, a huge mailing list and two and a half years of solid work behind it.

If you are interested in the site, feel free to email me at tom@scoresdaily.com and I'll be glad to answer any and all questions that you have. This is a site that will need a little work, but will pay off with HUGE rewards to someone who buys it and puts in the time.

Thanks!

TA2002 CORRECTED

How are you generating rev? Is it via the sportsbooking services , just advertising, or a little bit of growth. Do you have proof of these figures that your site is generating?

The revenue at this point comes purely from advertising, mostly from handicapping sites (people who sell sports selections), ticket brokers, and other sorts of websites that aim at men. We are not selling ads at all to sportsbooks, casinos, or poker sites, which leaves a big hole as far as money. Occasionally we rent our list for a mailing, and that makes us a bit of money on the side.

We have signed contracts for all the ads we've sold and all the ads that are under contract ... whomever buys the site will likely be purchasing with it about $2000-3000 in signed contracts that they'll be able to collect on down the road. (In other words, a couple of contracts, they owe another $300-500 in six months or something like that, and the new owner will be able to transfer those contracts and collect on those.

All of our deals are for flat rate advertising- no CPA stuff (though that might be a good idea if someone ramps up the traffic).

I hope that answers your question. If you have other questions, feel free to email me at tom@scoresdaily.com. I'll also check on here again later.

Hi Tom,

Welcome to the "Village" and best of luck with your deal. Some thoughts and questions designed to help both parties.

1. This site dates back to 2001 so it's hardly a new kid on the block. See:

http://web.archive.org/web/*/scoresdaily.com

Right click on a few links to see.

2. Income can be a little confusing to post which I understand and for me to understand sometimes, so please just fill in the blanks with my question without an explanation.

a. What is your year to date gross income _____ ?

b. What is your year to date net income _________?

Please note: The above numbers are funds actually collected, depositied, and the checks clear. I'm not referring to accounts recievables and or any contracts you may recieve monies from.

It appears that you have owned the site since 1/04 or is it for the last 2 years as part of your business contacts offer indicates in your post above??? You said"....that has all of our business contacts from the past two years."

This leads to the same questions on a total revenue figue without an explanation for calendar years 2003 and 2002?

2003 _____?
2003______?

2002______?
2002_______?

Can you shed any info/data on exactly who owned this site before 1/04 given your previous post and the conflict it creates with "Age of site: Started back in January 2004
"?

Maybe you purchased it? For? History and any other data. This is VERY important

Good luck

I do not feel that it would take 4-5 years to make this back, unless someone took over the site, didn't do anything new, and just sort of let it exist. As a content site, I think the ideal new owner is one who A) will increase the content and work on improving the site and B) one who will actively seek advertisers from the categories I mentioned.

In doing that I think that a new owner will make $40-50k in the first year and then the site will be profitable, and they'll be sitting on a 16,000-person mailing list, four years of archives, and all of the other accoutrements.

Steve:

Thanks for the note. I appreciate it.

Clarifications:

It was a typo when I said January 2004. I meant January 2002, which was when I worked to relaunch the site (it had been up, briefly, in 2001). In August 2002 I left my job and ran ScoresDaily.com fulltime (it was my job). In March 2003 I started a new project and stopped doing as much with ScoresDaily.com.

Revenues (Gross first, then net).
2004 Gross: $5000
2004 Net: $3200

2003 Gross: $35000
2003 Net: $25000

2002 Gross: $15000
2002 Net: $10000

Hope this helps clarify.

Thanks for all of the interest in the site, and let me know if you have more questions. Yours, Tom Alexander (tom@scoresdaily.com).
