Post Need a good host fast..

Hi guys,

I'm running a Fan site for the game Project IGI .. my domain is www.projectigi.com now my problem is that my site generates alot of traffic (65k impressions caused 18gig traffic)

My previous host was simply way to expensive for that traffic (below10host.com) and so i decided to switch host to ww.wwm.net .. Now this is 5 days ago and i've think i've emailed them about 30 times due to questions problems or other things (they react very fast though) it started out with an error in the dns setting or something which caused the site to be down for several days.. another domain pointer they simply forgot (got 3 extra domain pointers) and i'm still having problems with the emails who 8/10 times don't work.. Now starting problems can always occur and I don't mind that.. however the host simply is WAY too slow.. if i mean slow i mean that uploading goes with a speed of 600bytes/sec.. (if i'm lucky) it took me 10 hours to upload the complete site..

So i really have to move again but I need a GOOD host which doesn't cost much.. I simply do not got the money for an expensive host (advertising hardly brings in anything)

Currently my visitors are skyrocketing so traffic will probably increase alot ..

Can anyone suggest a FAST host for me.. (which is also good for europe and not only USA) which is "cheap" (relative word)

I needs to support PHP/Mysql,SSI and CGI/perl..

I really need some help from experienced webmaster who know hosts.. cause i looked around and see alot of hosts but the prices range very much and you have no speed gaurantees http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif

well i think you have some bloated pages if 65,000 page views generated 18GB of bandwidth - that's like 290kb per page !!!

it's times like theses i wish my site www.adnetworkhosts.com and www.hostingwanted.com was up and running http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

first suggestion is optimising your pages and graphics through the use of websitegarage.com and netmechanic.com

second suggestion (just learnt this the other day) - minimise the byte size of your main entry page to your site and most visited top 2 - 5 pages of your site. Alot of visitors don't get past the first page or bookmarked page of your site so reducing the size of your main page reduces your bandwidth bill alot.

for graphics optimisation look at Ulead Smart Saver Pro great utility http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Also check your server logs to see if your images are being hotlinked. If they are setting up a mod rewrite or changing the image location should reduce your bandwidth.

As to high bandwidth hosts - i am not sure, but tera-byte.com starting sometime today will have a special for christmas until Dec 24th, 2000

for the virtual hosting plans an extra 50% period on payments - i.e. pay monthly and pay and get 45 days of service, pay 6 months and get 9 months service and their highest plan has 40GB/month and php4/mysql but on a RaQ4 server

or tera-byte.com does have a dedicated server special for US$99/month for a Raq3, 32mb 10gb hdd with 100GB/month - it should be listed on their site sometime today or this week.

just to note a raq3 is on a AMD 300 processor whereas the virtual host plans are on a raq4 - AMD 450 cpu.

I can tell you that http://www.liquidweb.com is very good. They have a package with a 30GB download limit and 500MB of space for $25 which I'm sure would be perfect for you. They do charge quite a bit for bandwidth overages though, $6/gig but it doesn't look like you'd need to worry about that at least for a while. Their service and customer service has been excellent so far and they seem to know what they're doing. Hosting4Less.com has a $25 package that allows for 25GB of bandwidth but I'm not sure how good they are as far as customer support goes, never tried them.

BTW, check out http://www.hostglobal.com - particularly the hosting indexes.

Well the high traffic is due to the fact that my page has up alot of screenshots and some small movies of the game..

Currently I have over 100k pageviews so you can guess what is happening with the traffic.. (i don't know the nr. because of this ****ing new host that is AGAIN down)

hotlinking or something to the pictures isn't possible i made a script against that http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif but still i get alot of traffic..

I can optimise my main pages etc by optimizing the grafics, should save about 100k/150k as i noticed.. I think that would help a little .. but still i need a good host http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif
