I can't answer the first question with any certainty but Google recognizes and ignores multiple domains pointing to the same site/page. It may be that the first link Google found to your home page, way back in the beginning of your site, was a link which pointed to gotobaby.com without the "www". From that point Google decided to only index the version without www.

To change the current situation you could try detecting whether the visitor has come to "gotobaby.com" or "www.gotobaby.com" and automatically redirect the vistor back to your site using "www.gotobaby.com". If you do that next time Google comes to visit it might decide to index your home page under www.gotobaby.com however I'd consider this quite a dangerous thing to do. Google may decide not to crawl your site at all. My suggestion, leave it alone. I wouldn't do that to my site.

In answer to your second question, my guess as to the reason your site doesn't come up first for a search for "gotobaby" (based on what I could see on the home page) is that your pages do not contain the term "gotobaby". Sure it contains "gotobaby.com" but google obviously doesn' treat it the same. My guess is that if you changed the page title from "Baby Gifts GoToBaby.com ....." to "Baby Gifts GoToBaby ....." , you'd improve your ranking for that search term.

There are no exact answers in the search world, just educated guesses so I could be off the mark on any of all of these answers.
