Default ClickXChange Help

Hi all, first time poster, long time reader ... I was hoping someone could give me advice regarding ClickXChange Affiliate programs. I started up an affiliate program there about a month ago, I've approved over 20 affiliates, but none of them seem to want to put up my links, save one site. The set rate is .05, which I thought was pretty good ....

Is this normal ? I've been pretty selective regarding which sites I accept, usually only about 1 out of 7 or 10, so maybe I just need to be less selective about matching my content to the content of the affiliate. I've been mostly only accepting humanities-related sites. To accept more affiliates though I would probably have to lower the commission rate.

Thanks in advance for the advice ...

The text link you offer is ok.
The banner would not load for me and its an irregular size. There are lots of advertisers offering somewhat clickable ads for 5 cents per click.
If you pay 6 or 7 you would do better.
Also you need 120x60 and 120x600
There are very few good 120x600 banners that are cpc other than credit card ones. Also the framed ad at the bottm makes your site look unprofessional and I experienced a downloadable executable installation prompt at your site.
These things do not entice affiliates, they make them think your program will close down shortly. And programs closing down early are a big pain for Clickxchange publishers.

Hey KJ, and welcome to Geek/Talk.

While firstmark's suggestions are fantastic, I have my suspicions that the problem facing your program may be more of a technical nature.

That is, as an affiliate I've had trouble working with those few programs that have joined ClickXchange since the recent outtages, with impressions and clicks not being counted by the system. In fact, your program was one of two that I tried recently (the other being a casino popup program) whose activity was not being reported within my publisher interface whatsoever.

As a result, I pulled down the creatives (as many of your would-be affiliates may have done) and contacted ClickXchange. After about 48-72 hours, cXc responded with an email that failed to address the problem. I emailed the same contact 24 hours ago, and have yet to receive a follow-up response. The moment I do, however, I'll let you know what may be happening.

Until then, feel free to contact cXc yourself. You can even refer them to this thread if you'd like (we do have a ClickXchange admin as a member here), and we will hopefully have this matter resolved shortly.

All the best,

Hi, I think I am one of the publishers you rejected, but it's all good. I probably would have ran 2 or 3 thousand impressions and then pulled it because of low CTR.

I wouln't recommend paying over .05 per click. You are in a small niche. And your link will probably not perform well on most publishers sites.

However on the right sites your link will perform better than anything else. I would recommend going to http://www.dmoz.org or http://www.geocities.com Go through the directories for other poetry sites, contact the webmasters, tell them you will sponsor their sites, and ask them to join your program.

Although I have yet to hear back from ClickXchange, it seems that the tracking/reporting glitch that I mentioned above has been addressed.

KJ, be sure to let us know whether this has a marked effect on the level of activity generated by your program.

Hi Czar, and thanks for bringing my attention to this. I relocated the banner & made some adjustments as well, maybe this will help with any glitches.

So far 3 affiliates stats are up & running, which I suppose is better than just one so I guess I'll just keep an eye on things & if no one else starts sending traffic I'll contact clickxchange.

Hope all is well, take care,

My feelings are that affiliate networks/program managers should "not" reject/cancel sites except maybe adult sites, those committing fraud, promoting hatred, etc..

You create bad Karma and potential negative word-of-mouth by rejecting/canceling sites. I personally build sites around affiliate programs or themes thus I often even don't even have a site built when I apply for an affiliate program. I honestly feel that affiliate programs/networks that reject sites left and right "just don't get it".

I think I understand your point and would agree with you in the case of large affiliate networks but in the case of our humble ClickXChange program I would disagree with you. It's one thing for Yahoo to leave no stone unturned but my site is a specialized site, with a targeted audience and a limited budget; its not a network persay.

If I approved every site, the webmasters would have put up the banners and gotten maaaaybe .001 CTR. Wouldn't it just be a waste of time for both the affiliate and the advertiser ? I had sites applying that had no relevance whatsoever to our content. Even if they had a reasonable CTR which seems unlikely, the traffic probably wouldn't be of that high a quality. And for a business with a limited budget that doesn't seem wise.

Well Shiva will just have to forgive me if I indeed am creating "bad Karma", but I really think some of the webmasters bring it on to themselves by applying for programs which don't fit their site. I'm not about to put a poetry banner on a site about MLM's. If I'm wrong about this, someone please correct me; the only thing I'm interested in "getting" is a sound business model and decent traffic, and this seems the smartest route to that goal.

Too much advertiser selectivity does make it hard to use clickxchange properly from a webmaster perspective. A lot of large websites have pages relevant to a given ad that the advertiser will never know about just from visiting the domains homepage. Also it is a bit silly to think one can pay low cpc and cpm rates with clickxchange then expect highly targeted demographics from the sites. The ads themselves should be creative enough to self select the demographics desired if its targeted cpc, rates should reflect that though.

Default Business Model?

College Poetry,

ClickXchange is a wonderful network. But, Did you know that you can pay FindWhat .01 per click to register all of these terms on their search engine and they will put you on Findwhat, Search.com, Infospace, Dogpile and a bunch of other search engines?

I use them to launch new sites, and it brings a lot of traffic on a budget. They also have a lot lower minimum to open an account and I don't think they have a minimum spending budget either. You could get 25,000 targetted visitors looking for poetry for the same cost of 3,500 on clickxchange.

I know you didn't ask. And I wouldn't claim to have the slightest clue about successful business models. (Read my signature for more on my credentials concerning that.) But you speak of that site as a business. I happen to love poetry and thought about doing a poetry site. I was curious to see how you were capitalizing on it. I couldn't find anything for sale on your site. How do you plan on generating enough revenue with that site to cover your cost of advertising?

Cstark I see 10 cents 8 cents and 7 cents for the top 3 for poetry on findwhat. You can't get it for one cent per click.

Well you can get the terms for 1 cents per click at the bottom of the page on findwhat, but beyond the top 3 or 5 and their partners don't show the listings, hence you won't get any exposure.

You still get traffic on the one cent terms it just doesn't come as fast.

Those .01 terms work. They probably wouldn't work for keywords like Dedicated Server, Hosting, or Online Gambling. But they would work for a less competitive space like Poetry. Especially when you get into the less requested keywords he will be top placement.

You just register every term. Even the ones that you are low on the list will bring in some hits, I was not in the top 5 on all of my terms. I posted a page of an old report below. They send hits. FindWhat's regular search engine gets a lot of traffic from Co-Brands, affiliate links etc.

Besides College Poetry still hasn't explained to us how he is going to convert his visitors into cash. If he plans on making the money back off of advertising, 01 per click may not even work.
