You know what I hate about online banking...
It's not usable! For example, recently one of my clients asked me to tell him how much money he paid me last year for tax purposes. I thought I'd go to www.suntrust.com (I deposited all the checks he sent me at SunTrust) and look for all checks deposited that were from him. Well, I ran into several problems: - SunTrust's website bans the Opera 6.0 web browser. Why? Because their programmers used some (IMHO needlessly) complicated JavaScript that isn't universally compatible. Ok, so I switch to Internet Explorer. - SunTrust doesn't display who the check was from, only the date and the amount. - SunTrust doesn't display any transactions that are more than 45 days old. If I want data going back even further, I have to order an account statement which is sent to me by snail mail. If I ever decide to look for another bank, I'm getting one that knows how to do business online next time. |

Banks kind of expect that you are going to download the data into Quicken or Quickbooks. This is why they give you a download option so you have everything for your records for tax time.
If you are using Quicken, you should be able to look up the checks right there. It does make me wonder why the client needs to ask you how much they spent - don't they keep records of where they are spending money? |
