Cool What was your first affiliate program?

Back in 1995 I made a page dedicated to the upcoming game, Diablo. I put a banner ad up from a company called "Banner Ad Brokers" or something like that, they no longer exist. .. they paid 6 cents a click. I never made the minimum amount with them. After that it was Safe Audit, EAds and Click2net. Anyone remember that $3 FortuneCity lead offer at Safe Audit? That was sweet

What were your first affiliate programs?

I used clicktrade first. Per per click rates weren't great but I learned a lot about the importance of targeting with clicktrade.

Sonicnet was my first, in 1997. I think they paid 5 cents/clickthrough to their website, but scrapped their affiliate program due to fraud after a year or two.

My first ad network was eAds (also 1997), which I replaced with ValueClick, which I replaced with Teknosurf (later Advertising.com), which I replaced with Burst Media.

My first was with the Pages that Pay program available for Geocities pages. I can't remember exactly when it was, but I would guess 1997. Back then they had at least a dozen different merchants, including Go.com, which paid $.05 per click at its peak. I made over $300 with that program before Go decided to leave, after which I decided it was time to move on as well. Back in those days I think Pages that Pay was a great program for young webmasters that can't handle all the hassle that comes with having their own domain name but want to make enough pocket change to convince their parents that they don't need to get a job in the "real world" yet .

I think it was Amazon, might have been Beyond or Clicktrade.

ClickTrade was my first. I was so excited to get my first check ... it took a couple months to reach the $25 minimum. Another early one was sureclicks.com (which OC doesn't exist anymore). They paid me $1CPM for bottom of page banners ... and they actually paid me too. The check(s?) were handwritten, I think it was just some kid working out of his basement. *sigh* the good 'ol days.

My First Program: The Internet Banner Network in 1997. At the time they were offering $5 CPM on all banners shown. I'd prefer not to discuss my experiences here, but it turned me off completely to making money on the web for more than a year.

My First Check: The Commonwealth Network (later ContentZone, now gone) in 1998 for $60. Sadly, I joined them right after they did away with their flat rate (which used to be as high as $5 CPM if I remember correctly). They changed to an odd compensation system that was your Impressions divided by total Network Impressions times $5,000.

I don't remember the name of my first offhand - it had click or clik in the name though. I know I received one cheque from them which rather surprised me

The first one I really got into was ADSDAQ (later amazingmedia)

lol, mine was bizland.com. Was still learning html at the time, and happened to have a link for free webspace. Referred 2 people and made $2. Suprisingly, they sent me a check for $2. I still have the check. Been awhile.
