Hey Singloon,
How much disk space does a vbulletin use per 10,000 posts ? I figured you'd be the right guy to ask because you own the montrosity called animeboards! I got a very good domain name and I'm planning to put up a comic book vbulletin. Last edited by cutecat; 01-09-2002 at 04:07 PM. |

![]() hard to say but with vB you have to take into account number of attachments, size of average attachments, number of private messages, average size of private messages, number of avatars and custom avatars and average size of them, number of members, threads, posts etc... you have to remember also mysql database space is usually separate from the web space quota of your virtual hosting accounts due to the nature in which mysql databases are created and where they reside (out side of your normal web space) my vB has 540,000+ posts = 200MB 33,406 threads = 3.6MB 5384 attachments = 185MB 660 avatars = 138.1kb 772 custom avatars = 1.6MB 47,922 private messages = 28.3MB 87 smilies = 20.1kb 4,804 users = 1.3MB 9,617,521 records searchindex = 225.3MB 493,252 records word table = 38MB there are other tables but these are the ones that grow most with growth of a vB forum in total my forum occupies 700MB of mysql database space searchindex and word tables are used to log terms in posts in an index - it can be set to log terms min 4 characters and max 20 characters by default, you can change these 2 settings to allow searching words of different lengths.. i.e. mine is set to log terms with min 3 and max 17 characters.... it's basically what makes vB's search function so fast when pulling up 100,000s of posts etc

singloon has spoken BUT perhaps I can help <cough>10K posts would require roughly 20MB in mySQL storage space. Don't forget the hardware side of this equation. Last edited by Steve_S; 01-09-2002 at 07:29 PM. |
