Every year at about this time we have a few threads on this

Change to ©1998-2002

Tips:

1. In VBulletin edit your styles >> footer template. If you have multiple styles/skins don't forget to edit all of them.

2. If your sites uses SSI + an include and thus has a footer via:

<!--#include virtual="/my_footer.html"-->

Edit my_footer.html and upload and thus change your entire site.

Any other tips? Search and replace? Tools?

I've used a tool called "search and repalce 2000" which is handy as it can replace across multiple text files in multiple directories.

It requires a bit of figuring out first though.

I've always used Homesite which has a great Extended Find/Replace tool. It can update all the pages in one shot

Yep, glad I thought ahead when my design was created as I have my copyright notice in an SSI include. Now, gotta do it for my vB.

Thanks for the info Steve. But AFAIK this change is only applicable to content that is created/changed in 2002. For the rest of the sites it remains the same i.e. the year the content was created. Am I right?

It really doesn't matter.

It is much more important to have your own correctly dated copy of original content than to have a copyright notice on the site.

The notice is just for show, it is not a neceassary part of copyright law.
