Default So umm where did that support go?

Hello,

I have just ordered a server from Rackshack.net yesterday and am totally astonished at everything.

They're support is nearly non-existant. So far the only thing they managed to do right is bill me and call me for confirmation. They don't even know how to change the dns of a machine with Ensim. Neither do I at the moment but i'm not selling this stuff besides I'm weak with dns .

About they're server setup... so far it seems okay but when I tried to reset my machine it just wouldn't do it. According to the control panel it would reboot in one minute. I was also logged on to the shell via ssh and I didn't receive a broadcast message for the reboot. I was getting worried and I realized after five minutes my machine isn't going to be rebooting.

I looked at the system time and apparently it's October 22 2001... Well i fixed that with the shell as ensim webappliance ls doesn't have a time configuration utility, it just lets you change timezones. Reboot via the control panel now works... Yay!

Well i realized that i needed some additional for the nameservers etc... Well it's been 23 hrs and I haven't heard from them yet.

I guess you do get what you pay for and apparently I didn't pay for support.

I logged on to their chat yesterday, haven't tried today and it was working. I'm not a big chat person and when i went no web-hosting talk was going on so i left.

There may be other rooms with more hosting related chat... I'm not sure...

Still no ips, but they did have a major electric problem so that could hold them down.

Another customer mentioned that it would took him 5 days... I know this person quite well and I hope this won't be the case. Still, the main reason I am sticking with them is the price. It's very affordable...

Besides it looks like there support isn't or really can't help me with anything server related. Which is bad but good since i have to do everything myself now. Could be a decent learning experience...

Too bad your sql password was messed up.

I hope they set your system clock correctly... It looks like alot of the Ensims WPs including my own weren't.

Default just my 2 cents

from my experience, rackshack has a good support team, but the problem is that the staff handling the server setup/restore aren't doing their job correctly ... i am lucky to get my server within 5 minutes after ordering ... but the licence for plesk control panel isn't installed ... well, as a stupid newbie i ******* up my server several times and request for 3 restore in total (1st free, 2X$29) ... my server was restored within 15 hours each time but they left out at least 2 of :

1. gcc compiler
2. plesk licence
3. plesk control panel password

even i stated clear in the ticket "Please remember to install ..." and the last restore, they even install ensim on my server instaed of plesk ... but the hlepful support team do fix all my problems after submiting a ticket and from the chat room ... by the way, the chat room works fine for me everyday since my sign-up (18/12/01)

i think if the setup/restore staff do things correctly in the first place ... RS can hire less support staff.

I also had to install basic stuff like pine/pico that was surprisingly missing.

Umm it's been 10 days and support hasn't been able to give me "valid" ips. They gave me a set of ips 3 days a go but they all connected to a password locked network device, most likely a router.

The nest problem occured when i sent them a trouble ticket they UNPLUGGED my machine to see if it was the one asking for the password. Well, they plugged it back in within minutes after they realized it wasn't. But the fact that they did shows that we don't have properly trained techs.

I guess the saying "you get what you pay for applies here"

I know in our case we couldn't afford to have problems like all of you described here. That would be disastrous.

RackShack is good for a lot of things, but enterprise level hosting it is not =)

I really love my servers at rackshack for my personal/for fun (well, and a small profit) sites , howerever I wouldn't dream of hosting by companies website their, because frankly if there was a problem you could be looking at days of downtime.
