Unhappy Long domain names a promotion tool?

I've read in some places that the new 47 character domain names are a great undiscovered promotion tool. Just load up a domain name with keywords, and point it to some other shorter domain name, and it'll rank you better.

Anybody tried this before or know anything more about it?

Hmm, I doubt if it really works. There are not many search engines that index text in domain name as individual words. Filling keywords in site title works though and for that you don't need a longer domain name!.

Any more thoughts?.

I think its a bunch of hype too. There really isn't any data to back it up, or they would bombard you with it.

Sure, keywords in your domain help(in some search engines), but not signifigantlly. You might be better off creating pages and putting keywords in your folder and file name, I believe it has almost the same weighting.

Actually, you can register domain names up to 63 characters now.

Later,

Up until a couple weeks ago, I didn't bother with the long domain names for the mere fact that it takes to long to write down the URL when someone asks about your site. Since I have a host that pays me now, I decided to find out first hand what the fuss is about long domain names.

I registered http://work-at-home-business-money.com (popular keywords, "work at home", "home business", and "money" according to goto.com) but haven't started promoting until the site is finished.

My question: Which do you think is easier for an interested party: work-at-home-business-money.com or cynted.com
(short sweet and easy to remember).

Edward

Edward:

I would go for cynted.com as the other domain name is a little too big and not very nice & sweet even though it has some good Keywords in it.
