Lightbulb Google buys Writely in big strategic move

The Google purchase of Writely is much more important than it might look on the surface. At some point in the future when people look back on it, many might say this purchase was a very big key moment in Google history.

I've have been testing Writely for a couple of months, but never got around to posting about it at Geek/Talk. It does have some very nice features as well as some of the disadvantages of being hosted online.

Writely is a web-based word processor. Now that Google owns it there most likely are going to be a lot of Microsoft Word users who will start using Google Writely, or whatever Google ends up calling it. This could have an impact on Microsoft's revenue.

It is looking more and more as if Google is going to have a Web Office Suite. Some of the pieces are in place with more known to be in development. Google could end up making available for free what Microsoft sells at some rather high prices.

Almost all Google employees carry a laptop around, well i think some of them I thinking of going ultra mobile when it possible.

The solution an internet tablet, the nokia 770 is one of the first devices in this category to come out. Online office applications is the way to go, all the power of the laptop in your pocket with the help og web 2.0 applications.
