Steve posted about adcursor in the sucmware forum. I thought a seperate discussion about this technology will be worth it.
Visit adcursor.com and leave your mouse idle for 7 seconds and watch carefully. Looks interesting. |

Ya, I think it is pretty neato but it defeats its own purpose unless you have a site or a forum that will keep people from using thier mouse.
Before there was this under banners: please click our banners to keep our site free! Now it will be this on the top of webpages: please keep your mouse still to keep this site free

This is very useful to those sites which have interesting articles or have forums which people actually stop to read. I think it will succeed only if it is not intrusive.

I've done some tests for it with a couple of ad networks and so far it is universally hated. Visitors resent having it cover up what they are looking at.

hmm a 0% CTR seems like visitors are ignoring it or there's some bug in the code. What's the ad impressions with respect to the number of page views?

I've also been testing this out for the past week. Here's what I've been seeing: (weekends are always slow)
Code:
Date Imp Clk CTR Pageviews 2001-09-04 795 1 0.13 % 13500 2001-09-05 7972 12 0.15 % 14000 2001-09-06 5251 7 0.13 % 13000 2001-09-07 4032 8 0.20 % 17000 2001-09-08 921 3 0.33 % 3700 Last edited by paulj; 09-09-2001 at 11:37 AM. |

did you add in the page views or did the script report it?
mine didn't show it maybe i should look again see anythign about price in the advertisers section you can buy either CPC or CPM however as a publisher in stats doesn't show what the ads are paying... btw i haven't gotten any complaints at all. |

You are right about the price not being displayed. All it tells you is that you get .30 CPM or .06 CPC. I figured I may as well try them as they're not taking away inventory from any of my other programs. |

They pay 60% of gross sales revenue for the entire network. Because they are paying this percentage on gross sales, if you look at their rate card, you'll be able to get a rough idea of how much to expect. As they've only just completed their second month of ad serving, it's unlikely you'll see a check until the end of next month. It seems the norm nowadays to pay after 60 days.
So far, I've served 157,483 ads for 165 clicks and a 0.10% CTR. Nothing to write home about, but it's performed better than I expected. |

Why do I not see the ad? I just let my mouse sit on adcursor.com and nothing happened. Can somebody else give me an example from a page where this is being used? Also, as said earlier, this would be a good idea for a site with forums. Does anybody know if they allow it to be used in forums.
Thanks Last edited by thefanzone; 11-04-2001 at 12:45 AM. |

Hi fanzone
![]() I just tested it again and it isn't so noticeable as the first time I saw it. It is a small ad on the top left of the page with an arrow pointing to it. I can't understand how anyone can get clicks with this, as it goes away when you touch the mouse ![]() Oops, I take that back, I just reloaded it and it was half hidden on the right side! So I guess it could appear anyway. I will try once more. Yep threequarters hidden on the far right this time.

Typo on the AdCursor.com main page
"With adcursor we can GARANTEE impressions! " Maybe it's just me, but I have a hard time trusting someone who has a word in all caps that is mispelled on their main page. Sure we all make typos, but I'd like to think that someone who works there would see that and get it fixed. |
