Unhappy Popup suggestions

My tracking program for ClickHere2Surf.com shows that my popup program is not getting a high CTR. I'm currently using goClick links and CPC CJ programs on the popup. Do you know any other programs that would perform well on popups or any suggestions to make a popup that people won't close as soon as it opens?

BTW my profit is still increasing and the blind link and pop-under programs are working very well. The pay rates may increase in a few weeks if it continues to work well.

Assuming your visitor reflexively closes popups, there are two things you can try:

(1) Make them see the popup before they have a chance to close it. That entails:

(1a) Make the popup load as quickly as possible:

Minimize use of graphics: If a text link can nicely get the message across, use it in lieu of a banner.

Install mod_gzip on your web server: This will compress your HTML files to about half their previous size.

Make your HTML code as compact as possible: Even if you design the HTML page with an HTML editor, edit it by hand to remove any extraneous tags. Ensure that the page can render incrementally, i.e. people should still be able to see it even if only part of it has loaded. This is accomplished by using ALT tags for every image, and remember that TABLEs cannot be rendered until the entire table has been loaded.

(1b) Make the popup simple enough such that the user can ascertain what the popup is saying at a glance:

On the web, people tend to scan instead of read. They'll look at a paragraph of text and only see some of the words. Make sure the words that they see are the important ones. Here's a good (it's not long) article about writing for the web: http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9710a.html

(2) Prevent them from closing the popup:

Some days ago, someone posted a frameless popup script to GeekVillage. You can find the post by using Search and searching for "frameless" in the subject line.

This popup script causes the new popup to not have a title bar on Internet Explorer. (For other browsers, it works like a normal popup.) Without the title bar, the user cannot click on the "X" button in the upper-right corner to close it. Caveats of doing this:

(2a) Annoyed visitors: Not only are you throwing a popup in their face, you're also not letting them close it. These visitors will complain to the webmasters, and the webmasters might decide to remove your popup.

(2b) Annoyed merchants: Most people don't know how to close a frameless popup. They might end up clicking something on the popup that they didn't mean to, and are not interested in. This can raise issues with the CPC merchants. You may want to put a "Close Window" button at the bottom of the popup so that people can still close it; they just can't close it reflexively.
