Lightbulb More Traffic or Commission?

Here's my question to the users of this board...

Would you switch refer-a-friend services if you could double your referral traffic but also give up all "mailbits" revenue.

In other words, if you could switch to another company that was ALWAYS up, had a MUCH better time-tested interface, never "stole" your traffic, guaranteed to substantially increase your referral traffic, and that did not pelt your users with ads, optin forms, and pop-ups --- BUT also did not pay you a penny, would you consider switching?

How much value do you put on increased traffic versus the value of "mailbits" commissions.

What do you think other webmasters would do, if presented with this choice?

Please give all of your thoughts.

If you want a service like that, then you might as well set one up on your own site, that way the only downtime you'll have is when your own site is down(since it's impossible to guarantee no down time). Also it would be fully cutomizable to meet your personal needs and you can put as much or little advertising as you want on it. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

There are reasons people wouldn't want to run a tell-a-friend script. The biggest is SPAM complaints. People often make typos or random email addresses.... I've gotten 2 spam complaints from a tell-a-friend script.

Also, there are people who can't run scripts.

I personally don't use mailbits for the reasons your mentioned above. But if you do offer a similar service, there will be some tradeoff... in that you have to benefit somehow... so how much would be the question

Change of subject & slightly off-topic:

Curious why is smartbot no longer offering new accounts ? Just curious... Have you maxed out or moved on to something else?

[feel free to ignore this question, if you don't want to answer]

In response to why SmartBot is no longer accepting new customers...

We were generating about 3000 to 5000 new accounts per DAY, and our infrastructure was not designed to handle the scalability requirements for this type of rapid growth.

So, rather than let the level of reliability continue to deteriorate, we decided to pass the business along to my very good friend, Tom Kulzer of Aweber, who provides a wonderful PAID service. In the meantime, we will address the outstanding overload situation right away.

We are also shifting focus onto consumer based viral marketing applications, as per my original question.
