Question original content vs borrowed content: which is better?

Hi all,

I wanted to know some of your thoughts on which is better to keep people coming back to your site: original content or syndicated/borrowed content. It would seem that people would go to one's site (in my case an online music magazine)to read content exclusive to one's webpage. But I'm also debating whether outside content, which they can easily bypass my site and get straight from the source, would help draw more readers. Input, please.

Give them both!

As much as possible of your own content and mix borrowed content (that you have the right to borrow/use) also. Try not to seperate the two and many times they'll think ALL of the content is purely yours. Don't try to decieve but merely instill a sense of trust that you can use to your advantage to make it seem as though you have more content than you do. (think that made sense)

The borrowed content is only good for making your site look like it has lot of fresh content.

I've found that people, or least my visitors, catch on pretty quick. They want to see original content.

However, if you can find borrowed content that is targeted to your site, by all means, get it.

People distinguish your site from other sites by its original content. They like to read an alternative viewpoint, not the same thing on a hundred different websites.

Original content involves tons of work tho, so like the other respondents above, I also suggest to mix in syndicated content. This reduces the work to you but still gives people the feeling that they've read another viewpoint on a topic.

Good luck with your site
