Default Popping a window in parent frame problem

I have created a popup which appears once per browser session. It can either be closed or popup a new window in the parent frame. This is the code:

<html>
<head>
<style>
a {text-decoration: none**
a:hover {color: "teal";**
</style>
<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow">
<title>Blah Blah</title>
<SCRIPT>
function navurl(URL) {
window.opener.location=URL;
self.close();
**
</SCRIPT>
</head>
<body bgcolor="#000000" text="#C0C0C0" link="#0080C0" vlink="#0080C0"
alink="#008000">
<div align="center">
<center>
<table border="2" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="215" height="260"
bordercolor="#008000" bgcolor="#003300">
<tr>
<td width="257" height="260" valign="middle">
<p align="center"><font face="Verdana" size="5">
Blah<br>
blah blah?</font></p>
<p align="center"><font face="Verdana" size="5"><A
HREF="javascript:navurl('http://www.mysite.com/folder');">Click
here<br>
</a>to visit the<br>
<font color="#FFFFFF">blah<br>
blah blah!</font></font><p align="center"><font color="#FFFFFF"
face="Verdana" size="1"><a href="javascript:self.close()">Close
Window</a></font></td>
</tr>
</table>
</center>
</div>
</body>
</html>

The question is, if the parent frame has been closed, how do I make the popup open a new window to display the new page?

I need something that will work on any platform and version after NN and IE4.

Post Bottom Line: It can't be done

As you no doubt have found out the check to see if the parent window exists doesn't work.

What you can do is put a variable or function in the main window and call it to verify if the window still exists and is still on your page, but if the user navagates off of your page there is no way to tell if the window exists or not.
