Default Worst and best host?

I wonder, what is best and worst host in your experience?

For me, best host I used sofar is Hurricane Electric. Rock-solid, great support and no overselling on the servers. Wish they were a little cheaper...

I've been using the same host for about 5 years and I'm very pleased with them.

Prior to then I used several different ones and I wasn't pleased with them. I am proud to say that some of them are now out of business.

I'm not really sure which was the worst but the best, in my opinion, is the one I've been using for several years, and that is Interland.

Some say they are a bit expensive. But to me it is worth it. There is not much to worry about with them.

The best hosts I've worked with are the following:
- Site5 (shared, reseller, dedicated)
- ServInt (VPS)
- VenturesOnline (dedicated)
- FluidHosting (virtual, Windows OS)

Those with whom I personally have had the worst experiences:
- CI Host (a classic)
- ADDR (unreliable uptime during heavy traffic, difficulty cancelling accounts, high excess data transfer costs)
- I4U-Host (lack of backups, open to security exploits, unscheduled downtime not uncommon, extremely high data transfer costs)
- Some tiny discount host I used in 1999 which turned out to be a kid serving websites from his home computer over an ISDN line. I learned quickly from that experience to do some due diligence before selecting a host.

My current dedicated server host, they've been great so far, inexpensive but stable. Support has been fairly good too through their "Orbit" member control panel. (Their forums are a great source of info too for dedicated server owners, especially relative noobs like me!)

Tera-Byte / 4WebSpace
www.tera-byte.com / www.4webspace.net
Used their shared hosting, then upgraded to a RAQ4 server. Excellent support ... phone up 4WebSpace's 800 # and someone picks up the phone! Quality service but I would recommend that you choose a P4 server from someone else instead of a now-ancient RAQ server.

Digital Space
My first web host! At the time they charged $2/month for a tiny shared hosting account, now it's $3 for the "Starter" account! I'm sure they're still decent if you're looking for cheap hosting for a low-traffic site.

CFM WebHost
Luckily no longer in existence ... I won't go into the whole sordid details, but similar to Czar's experience, seemed like it was run by one guy who was in over his head. One lawsuit threat later, I moved to Tera-Byte.

How to avoid BAD HOSTS:

1) Research
2) Try emailing them with some questions to see how they respond
3) Research some more!

The best place to find info about a host is WebHostingTalk ... before you buy, make sure to search on the name of your host there to see what people think of it!

Ah, my friend saw such guys in Poland too! Selling hosting on a garage-made Linux computer over 128 kbps line... What a nightmare.

Best: www.prioritycolo.com
Second Best: www.hostgator.com

Worst: All those damn web hosts like ipowerweb, globat, etc which are glutting the internet with high affiliate comissions and **** service.

I'm new to the whole "paying" for hosting world But I've had no problems and nothing but good service from my first real host, and they're located at http://www.bradstar.ca

No complaints there

Some of the best and worst hosts I've been with:

Fastservers.net (dedicated. Pretty good).

Dinix.com: Great support, but really slow servers. VPS packages.

ProHosters/Carpathia: They don't care about you unless you pay for their high-end servers which cost quite a bit (overpriced).

My personal favorite: EV1servers

My least favorite: Don't have one because I have been with the same host forever lol.

as some1 looking for a good paid host, i think it would be very useful to me, and i don't doubt to many others too, if you made a ranking of the best hosts according to peoples reviews. (maybe this thread should become a poll?)

Best hosts are in the eye of the behosted. What you or I consider the best/worst host, may not apply to all who use that particular host.
