you're lucky day... i am in a good mood after solving my pc problem over at Arie's forum http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
just add to .htaccess file these lines AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .html AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .htm and SSI will be enabled for htm and html extensions... i do this for both my sites eva2000.com and theprequels.net http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ------------------ Evangelion in the 21st century Eva2000.com Australian Star Wars Prequels ThePrequels.net Anime2001 Network Anime2001.com Coming soon... "You Are One Of The Most Helpful Geeks In This BB" ... well you should be given some credits for all your hard work and constant help http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ... maybe be another new moderator?(a suggestion to Steve http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif) THANKS A LOT SINGLOON!!! hahaha http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif Lucky me you are in good mood http://geekvillage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif, if not i will have to waste days to change those extension and links and have great time uploading my whole site http://geekvillage.com/ubb/eek.gif anyway, is it secure to use .htaccess to enable .html for SSI? there are some hazards stated in bignosebird.com's SSI tutorial at http://bignosebird.com/sdocs/enable.shtml is it refering to the method singloon suggested or it is refering to another method? thanks a in advance for your reply and help http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif |

well, i have tried to add those 2 lines in my .htaccess file and uploaded it to my main directory ... all the .html files is able to use SSI. however, this is the problem i faced ... i have to use www in front of my domain name or i have to state domain.com/INDEX.HTML ... otherwise when visitors want to visit my index page, it will ask them to "save the file on disk" like when we click on a download file.
so, should i upload the .htaccess file to my main directory or to the specific directories? |

please help me ... how to use .htaccess to enable .html for SSI, so that i don't have to rename all 500+ webpages to .shtml and change over 5000+ links to .shtml http://geekvillage.com/ubb/eek.gif
well, i have read the tutorial in BigNoseBird.com, however i am still not sure what to do and is it 'secure' to use .htaccess to enable SSI for .html? do i have to change all the chmod of .html files to 744? thanks a lot for your help http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif |

try putting the .htaccess file in a directory other than the main and see what happens... ------------------ Evangelion in the 21st century Eva2000.com Australian Star Wars Prequels ThePrequels.net Anime2001 Network Anime2001.com Coming soon... TheDesktopThemes.com Wallpapers |

My broswer automatically put [www] and [http://] So even if I write Domain.com/something/index.html, it will connect it as http://www.Domain.com/something/index.html
Doesn't it do the same for you, too? And it shouldn't ask for the visitor to Save the file to their computer unless you try using a .shtml extension After putting the 2 lines in .htacesss file. It shouldn't ask the visitors to save the file on their computer if the extension is .htm, or .html... Is it asking to Save the file on the computer with .shtml only? or .htm and .html, too? |

sorry for double post http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif
anywa, i have test the 2 lins again .. and it happens again ... well i never try it on .shtml before, as .shtml will work without the 2 lines ... what i found out is that we will have to state the .html file, if not the save thing will pop out again http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif singloon, it works fine for your site as your site has all like in .html but my site has tons of like with http://.../animation/ ... without the ...animation/index.html http://geekvillage.com/ubb/frown.gif ... so it woundn't work for my site ... maybe i will have to add index.html to those links http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif |

Why don't you for a link just go /whatever/whatever.html??? Is there something that makes the http://.../whatever/whatever.html (Or whatever you writ) better??? The only type of link that's url (that isn't the full url) that I don't like is when you just use the file like whatever.html, meaning it has to be in the same directory.
For me this test looked a little dumb, just trying to post banner ads to make money 9that would be tricking but I'm sure your not trying to do that and rather see if we can see something)or is it meant to show anything??? ------------------ From MLBS2000[*]Webpage: Anime Gaming Gold[*]E-mail: mlbs2000@psypoke.com [*]ICQ: 74466003[*]AIM/AOL: Mafyou54 |
