Exclamation Looking For Some Comments

Hey everyone-

I just finished the site for the freelance design gig I'm going to attempt to start. I was wondering if you would be so kind as to drop by and let me know what you think.

I've had the hardest time trying to figure out what direction I wanted to go in with the overall design, but I think this is the one.

Here's the URL: http://www.briostudios.com

Much appeciated! http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Site looks fantastic, in my opinion. Looks very professional. One comlaint though. The page after your flash intro looks very plain. Other than that, great job! http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks! http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Regarding the main page, that is my next challenge - I'm not sure what I'm going to put on it yet http://geekvillage.com/ubb/wink.gif. I'm trying to decide if I want text, a graphical menu, etc. I do intend to keep it relatively passive, but I hope for more than that! http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks again,

-Jim

I suppose you mean web site design? I work with graphic designers and they are very visual people. Your web site, like your examples, seem to have few powerful graphic elements.

I don't mean to be negative -- I found the copy well written and the layouts intuitive to use -- but the words "design studio" led me to expect to be wowed visually.

Just read your "about us" page. As an aside, it probably should say "about brio" since there is no "us".

But to my main comment, this makes you sound like an amateur:

Quote:
Through all of his experience using the internet, he learned what made a good web site and what made a bad web site. It wasn't until the end of 1999 that he decided to put all of his experience to good use.

This makes you sound more like an artist and presents a compelling marketing propostion:

Quote:
Since then he has put his experience and talents into making web sites that are intuitive, visually pleasing, and are full of information. Brio Design Studios uses his "Less is more" theory, where we use half as much text and graphics, but get the point of the page across twice as effectively.
My advice, play up "the artist and his philosophy" angle.

.

Thanks for your comments, adland. http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

I am by no means a graphic designer - that is probably one of my weak spots. I'm just a guy who can get by using PhotoShop. Seriously, I've been trying to imprive upon my graphics, and as you can see by my example sites, the use of the graphics does improve. In other words, I'm getting there. That's why I decided to use Flash to compensate for some of my inabilities.

As for the "About" section, I really appreciate your comments. I guess I still sometimes have the "amateur" mindset. I will definitly hype the "artist" angle as you suggested, I think that is a great idea.

I really appreciate your time http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif.

Thanks singloon, I put up a plugin detection page. That was on my list to do anyway, you just motivated me http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif.

Let me know if that works okay for you.

I like the color you use on your site for the flash(simply because I have it). Maybe if you used that color in your main pages it would look better and if maybe you could add a little bit to the page to make it bigger and hopefully require to scroll down, I would like it more. it is good to make it look bigger (but do not make the text box with the blue type color any thinner, it could ruin it if you did that). Also if you don't use the green color as on the flash, atleast get to colors that match quite well. Well that's my comment anyway.....

Some great comments in this thread http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

I'm a big fan of "inspiration" with respect to the design and UI of a site. Both of the following sites use Flash. One even has a HTML option. Both share your goal, HIRE ME http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

Since I "Art Directed" both of these sites and know both of the "kids" very well, I may be a tad overzealus in what I think. They are both outstanding examples and may help you.
