Wink

Because not everybody knows all the html commands and needs a kick start..
If everyone could use notepad why would anybody make a editor?
if that is the case why use a graphical interface for your operating system?

To me, it's just eyecandy http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif
Plus, an html editor makes life just a bit easier than notepad.

i.e. it defaults as an html file, and not text, or it makes tables for me in about 2 seconds.

The only big downside of HTML editors is that they tend to spit out lots of obsolete, nonstandard, or just plain broken HTML.

Thumbs up

I normally use vim on a unix box to create my webpages, but I'd have to say that I like 1st Page 2000 also.

HTML editors do have a few advantages.

- Color syxtax helps with typos
- Spell checker (for us keyboard challenged)

1st Page also integrates tidy which is a pretty cool program. Tidy will "tidy" up your code and make sure your tags begin/end correctly.

1st Page does not add a lot of "fluff" to the page.

No, I don't have any connection to 1st Page http://geekvillage.com/ubb/wink.gif.

Question

I used to swear by Notepad until I came across TextPad, it is basically Notepad on steroids. Great for both HTML and programming such as PERL.
