Default Spam of a strange sort

I don't have the email in front of me...because I'm logged in at work and this spam is on my home computer.

The strangest thing happened yesterday...

I got another spam. It looked like a normal spam.

I ignored it like all the rest of the spam I get.

Within 30 minutes, I was receiving emails from people that obviously hit the REPLY button...to say UNSUBSCRIBE ME...or threats to report the sender to the spam cops.

I kept getting these emails like I had been doing the sending. I checked the header and no where was my domain listed as the sender...just in the TO was my email address listed.

I never reply to spam...but I decided to try to hit reply and ask to unsubscribe and see what happened...thinking I would receive a copy of my email....

It bounced! But I kept getting emails from other people.

They were irate and it made me think that we were on some "email list" that when you reply, it goes to everyone.

The other thought is that my server was being used by hackers to send the spam...and somehow I was getting the replies but no one else was?

Any idea how this happened and how I can make it stop? I went into my sendmail functions of my server and added their network name to my block list...but I'm still getting them...

Weird stuff....Its like spam that keeps going on and on...like a virus.

Strange indeed....
Maybe try to put it in your filters to just automatically delete it?

You're probably better off than me.

About a month ago, I opened up a new email account at hotmail. Never had I used the email yet. (never signed up for any things, never gave the address away). Just never used it. Next day later, I get 15 emails in it. All spam - and yes - most of it that annoying porn junk. Next day, 15 more. I keep blocking them, but it never works. After about a week, I was getting 30 SPAM emails a day! This address was NEVER given out. I finally used the "Junk Mail" filter. Dang, I got more emails than ever! Like 50 a day!!! Sure, its just junk email. But I'm one of those people who just can't stand that its all right there. So I took off the junk mail filter after a month. Then, I set my "Custom Filters" thing up. Basically, I set it to automatically throw out emails with certain words located in the subject line. I listed in 20 of the most popular ones. Still, I get 10 SPAM emails a day now. Just yesterday though, I got a record-breaking 350 SPAM emails in one day!!!!!!!!! I checked my inbox, and of that 350, about 325 of then was form the same person, with the exact same message. I couldn't figure out where Hotmail's "select all" button was (by the way, where is it now?), so I had to MANUALLY select ALL 350 of the emails to delete them! Geeze!!
I'm thinking of abandoning that account. I still gotta check that email account today - hope there ain't that much!

One thing I've noticed about Hotmail, is that most account there recieve a lot of SPAM emails (especially that annoying porn junk). Dang you Hotmail!!!!

** words in Italics are "clean" version of what I wanted to say. Geeze!

Sounds to me like they're clicking the "Reply To All" button instead of just "Reply" ...I'm surprised you're not getting a bunch of emails saying "stop hitting the 'reply to all' button!"

A couple of months ago I was getting spam like that too. People asking me to take them off my mailing list, threats to report me to my isp, etc. I think it's just a spammer's trick to get people to reply so they can verify that the email address is active. I used SpamCop to report them for awhile then just set up filters to block them.
