Default adsense context functioning

I hope it's ok to start a new more specific thread, since my question is well...more specific. I know everything is new to most of us, but anybody have any theories on why adsense seems to be spot one with serving context appropriate ads on some pages, but completely off topic on other pages?

Also, anyone know which time zone is used for the reports?

(I'm guessing Pacific)

It is all about the words it chooses on the page. For example, on my forums which are gaming related, it will almost always pick something relevant like video games. However, sometimes it will pick up on a random word someone has on the page. Once today I saw it displayed a hosting ad when someone was talking about signature hosting in the thread or another time when it displayed an E-Mail ad where free E-Mail providers was mentioned.

Remember, the real power is what people bid on. If no one bids on a word, it can't come up. Also some people might be playing odd words for their site or there may only be a few valid words on the page so google does the best it can.

I'm interested in this too. Mostly because I suspect it's a fast feedback into how Google in general parses a page to find what it's about. If the contextual ads are spot on, I suspect the page would be more likely to do well for those keywords in a search. That may not be entirely true and there is the factor that if there are no bids on those keywords no ads will come up for it anyway.

From my observation I suspect that a number of the same things that are important for SEO are at work here. Page title seems to be very important and text in header <H1> tags. It also seems that Google generalizes the site's content and delivers an ad suitable to the site content if it can't do one specific to the actual page content.

Check this out, if I load some of my pages with just the http:// without the WWW, I show real ads on pages with default ads. Not on all mind you, only a few....
