Unhappy Genealogy programs

Hello ppl,

I run a genealogy site and would like to share experiences about genealogy affiliate programs, and to hear the same from others so that we could discuss things.

Is there any interest on this board?

Geneology.com has a program at Commission Junction. It appears to be based on promoting paid subscriptions to their database of family tree charts.

I haven't used this particular program, but CJ in general is very reliable.

Hello WSZ,

Thanks for taking the time to contribute.

Actually, genealogy.com's affiliate program is the one that drove me to open this topic. Yes, everybody is applauding CJ, but this very program raises concerns - at least for me.

I've delivered more than 15,000 impressions for genealogy.com this year. 400 clicks went to them, without a single sale. Is this normal?

For sure, there are better paying genealogy programs, at least for me. Here are some: ancestry.com, surnameweb.org, ancestralfindings.com, a couple of programs at clickxchange, etc.

I would like to invite more people to this topic.

Tristram.

What about ancestry.com?

I have to plead ignorance when It comes to genealogy, just offering these comments FWIW. I was asked to teach an Cyber Rooting - Internet Genealogy course for a commnity college. I checked out some sites, and looked to me that ancestry.com looked pretty decent.

I also have to admit another bias, as an instructor, when I choose an affiliate program my criteria may be different that yours.

I first look at, does the site provide good information, the content that one would expect to get by visiting that site. In most cases the sites I use as affiliates, are sites I use myself to buy products or services. In the case of Genealogy it is hard for me to gauge, since I am not shopping for those services myself.

The next thing I look for is ease of use from the affiliates perspective. Since I teach webmastering, I am often asked to advise aspiring webmasters. I'll try out an affiliate to see how easy it was to sign up for an account, what kind of support and ongoing correspondence I get from the affiliate once I have signed up.

I had looked at at few, but based on my principals Ancesty.com seemed to fit.

HTH,

Questy

I make a few bucks with ancestry.com. It's on the fringe of my demographic, so I viewed it as one of those "set it and forget it" programs, i.e., it couldn't hurt anything. Surprisingly, it's turned about $5/week and I do nothing to it.

I remember looking at the CJ program, it didn't impress me when compared to ancestry.com. I've added the HistoryChannel stuff -that has done nothing.
