Default Help - I would like to make a little money

Hello,

This is my first post hopefully someone can give me some good advise.

I started a hockey message board about 3 weeks ago at

GlassRattler

A couple weeks ago I signed up with CJ, and so far have not made a single penny. I have never built a website or started a Advertising program so I'm green at all of this.

I getting pretty good trafic and I know that with a message board I will get alot of return lookers. Here are some numbers from yesterday.

11,328 - Impressions
29 - Hits
247 - Returning Vistors
459 - New Vistors

Shouldn't I be able to make a little money with this kind of Traffic, I have given CJ over 100,000 impressions in a couple of weeks.

Any advise from the GURU's would be great.

Thanks

Zonify ????

Zonify is brand new and completely unproven in terms of reliability and payment. This is not to say that they wont be successful but these are tough times and most new ad companies are not surviving. When ad companies go out of business you will not be paid.

Here is a very recent thread about Zonify:

I am sure Czar has a list of better possibilities for you...

Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Czar is. You have to see it for yourself..

Ah, CJ. This can be extremely frustrating. May I give you an example: I have built a rather nice (imho) store for computer roleplaying games (http://www.rpgdot.com/team/games_shop.php). We put a lot of effort and research into it. We signed up with softwarefirst.com and Amazon.com, tried to do the same with the largest software vendor on the net (who declined us!).

Now here are the stats:

Sales 0
Leads 0
Hits 369
Impressions 276,476
CTR 0.13%

Plus about 200 hits with no sales on Amazon.com

The number of impressions is a little bit inflated because it also counts an ad on our front page, but most of the hits come from the store.

Couldn't say it is doing very well

Just a few thoughts:

* Try putting the CJ banner at the top of your page instead of at the bottom. Most people won't even see the banner now.

* Put up some CJ text-links on your forum index page. Text links usually get a higher CTR than banners.

* Consider selling your own products. Perhaps something like the GeekStore at GeekVillage? Try to think of products that would work for your audience.

I'm sure that I've had better results with these particular CJ programs than some people would because of the nature of my site (games) but the two programs that work best for me right now are:

IWonGear - good click rate and good conversion ratio

Jackpot.com - good click rate and not-horrible conversion ratio

Jackpot leads have been down the last few days though. Try the IWonGear banners and especially the IWonGear text links ("Win a Playstation 2!"), they seem to work well.

Chances are if you are with CJ right now, you won't get in any other agency.

CJ is basically used by websites who cant get accepted with any other company.

Cassandra,

I really don't agree with that statement regarding CJ. Many sites utilize many different programs for different reasons, based on the business model of their sites.

Cassandra, what you said is totally untrue. We are in the Doubleclick network and we use CJ in our rotation. I would guess that probably at least half the geekvillagers use CJ in conjunction with other ad networks.

Glassrattler - you may also want to apply to fastclick.com, valueclick.com, affliliatetarget.com just to name a few.

Ignore it. Many websites start out with cj or similar networks. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Everyone started somewhere and there are much worse places to start than CJ.

Thanks Lil Red

I did check out fastclick before I signed up with CJ, but one of there rules said NO messages board so I did not apply.

I will check out the other 2 that you suggested.

Thanks

I don't think you will find a better and/or larger affiliate network than CJ out there...

I make good money from them and have tried others, and none others compare.
