Default What are your revenue percentages?

What percentage of your revenue comes from:
(a) direct advertising - e.g. adwords
(b) SE traffic
(c) Affiliate Program

Which one is giving you more bang for the buck spent.

Thanks.

a) PPCSE Ads (Overture, Adwords): about 60%
b) Free SE traffic: about 40%
c) Affiliate Program: 0%

I have no plans to implement affiliate programs on the sites which would be possible to implement them because I know 95%+ of affiliates in pay per sale programs will be inactive or fail to produce any revenue. I prefer to do deals with sites directly instead of through an affiliate program.

hmm.. interesting. I would be really keen to know the breakdown from other sites for direct ads vs. affiliation - and which one gives a bigger bang for the buck (or the effort).

In dealing with the sites directly, are you not in effect setting up an in-house affiliate program. Still have to give them graphics, give them a login area to check stats, etc.

I ask, since I am wondering if adwords or a hybrid in-house/external affil. program will give me the biggest bang.

When I say dealing direct, what I mean is buying up ads on people's sites directly similar to a sponsorship deal. I also always request text links instead of graphical links. Generally, I set up some deal where I pay a fixed price for the link appearing on the site over a certain amount of time. Since there is a fixed price, there is no need for the site owner to be aware of clicks, impressions, or sales the ad generated. But of course, I have tools to track this for myself. I do not do this very often simply because I like to concentrate on PPCSE and free search engine traffic. However, it can be an effective way to generate traffic.

Jack, that would work when one finds reliable sites to work with, and on an on-going basis. As I have experienced, it is the 20% of sites (good sites) that bring 80% of traffic, so establishing one-to-one relationship with them is worthwhile.

What is key to me right now, as related to PPCSE's, it the question of promoting to affiliates (and build an aff network in support of that) or promoting direct to end-user. Intuitively, I think I get a multiplier effect for my money if I promote the affiliate program (the same $0.10 should bring me 50 customers vs. one customer!!).

I get about 50% from free SE traffic and about 50% from other resources, like exchanging links, adding links to directories, etc.

I have not got an affiliate program and I also have not taken part in Adwords, Overture, etc. yet.
