Unhappy Review: Entertainment & Technology Portal

Hi everyone,

I have created a web site that is related to Entertainment and Technology. The site includes, news, links directory, reviews, articles, meta-search, webmaster resources, MP3 music and lots of other stuff.

I would like to think that there is alot of interetsing stuff to do on the site, but I need to get some feedback from the people who will use it....people like you http://geekvillage.com/ubb/smile.gif

I would appreciate any comments or questions about the site.

It can't hurt to check it out ---> http://www.digiverse.net

Some quick comments. I think the layout and colors are generally very pleasing to look at.

A couple of things I would change:

1) When I used the search you asked my name (javascript popup), you asked again when I searched again, you asked again when I hit the back button. Lose this feature. I don't generally want to give my name out. Add a 'registration function' and give me some benefits from being registered, then I'll give you my name.

2) Your articles and reviews take up the entire width of the page which makes them difficult to read. There is a reason why newspapers and magazines use columns or narrow page widths. Also, by putting the articles in a narrow column you will have room to add more navigation, or advertising or both down the left (and possibly right) side of every page.

Good luck.

Thanks for your feedback. I know that the "name" script is annoying and I thought it was removed from the search, but I guess I will need to fix that right away.

I have also heard some people comment on the span of the articles. What is the size of your monitor? It was designed on a 14' screen and I didn't realize it would cause problems in terms of scrolling to see the rest of the article.

That is one of the many fraustrating things about web design - I need to anticpate the different needs of visitors.

If any else has noticed something about the site they thing I should fix please let me know.

By the way, does anyone thing the logo navigation is confusing? I have requested a review on some other forums and some of the people can't figure out what to do and I wanted to know if anyone else has had the same problem.

Thanks.

Nice looking site, clean and uncluttered.

I have to agree that the width of the articles is too wide. Currently I'm on a 17" monitor, at 1280x960 resolution. Average using is 800x600 (though that's quickly increasing to 1024x768 +) on a 15" monitor.
I'd suggest you keep the same width as the middle column on your main page, maybe a tad bit wider. Reading longer lines tends to make me lose interest more quickly.

I have updated my site and I hope that it is an improvment. I'm using a 14' monitor so it's little difficult for me to see what my site looks like on a larger monitor.

Now, I think it should look better on a larger screen, but if it doesn't I would like to know. I tried setting a width in pixels for the header and I left the rest of the tables at 100% width. Would doing this allow the page to fit better in monitors?

Thanks for the comments. If anyone has noticed any other problems, please let me know.

Oops, I didn't mean that the main page was too narrow, infact I thought it was perfect the way it was. I was more referring to the article pages (example: http://www.digiverse.net/business/weekly_sales.htm ) ... in my opinion, it's better that it doesn't stretch all the way across the screen.
