Default Grokster downloading service shuts down

Their file-sharing software was used for stealing movies and songs online. Grokster has agreed to shut down to settle a piracy case.

Grokster is permanently banned from participating in the theft of copyrighted files and they are required to stop giving away their software.

There are plans for a fee-based service with the Grokster name to offer legal downloads starting in about 60 days.

Default MashBoxx to make Grokster legal

The assets of Grokster have been purchased by MashBoxx, with intentions to move away from the illegal file sharing to one that is legal.

The Chief Executive Officer of MashBoxx was once president of Grokster. He played a role in reaching a deal between Grokster and the recording industry in order to not delay MashBoxx plans since a buyout agreement had actually been reached several months ago.

MashBoxx plans to have a beta version within the next several month and will license content legally. Customers will be charged for downloading.
